Bringing Back the Buggy

The Goblin A/T is the modern version of the old VW rail buggy.

A/T Prototype

Over 2 Years of Development

It was a no-brainer that the street version of our Goblin kit car could easily be an all terrain car with a few tweaks. Two years ago we set out to convert the Goblin into an all terrain car that would replace the old VW buggies we grew up with.

One of the first modifications was to relocate the radiator from the front to the back to protect the radiator and increase the front approach angle. Then we modified the Goblin frame to accept bumpers and kick rails. We also beefed up the front and rear suspension structures.

The Goblin A/T Prototype

The result was the Goblin A/T prototype. It weighs slightly more than the old VW buggies but it makes up for that by having plenty of power.

Donor + Kit

Step 1: Buy Donor Car

Average price: $500 to $1,000

The old VW rail buggies started with VW Beetle donor cars. The Goblin A/T starts with an automatic Chevrolet Cobalt donor. Cobalts are widely available and have 3 times the horsepower of the old rail buggies.

You'll buy your own donor from Copart or Craigslist. If you want help finding a donor, just shoot us an email: [email protected]

You'll use the engine, transmission, subframe, electrical system, pedals, gauges and a lot more from your donor car.

Step 2: Goblin A/T kit

Price starts at $8,000

After you buy and strip your donor, you'll combine the parts with a Goblin A/T kit. The kit will include the chassis, fuel tank, brake lines, radiator, suspension, brakes and more.

Assembling the Goblin A/T is nearly identical to the street Goblin. Additional videos and forum posts will help first time builders to assemble their kit quickly.
