I found a SS in the salvage yard yesterday! Which SS is it?

I found this SS while walking around the salvage yard. It totally caught me off guard. I didn't even check to see if it was an Auto or Manual. But I was hoping some of you cobalt experts might be able to identify what kind of SS this car is.

Personally, I figured if I were to ever build a Goblin to let it happen natually. And nothing says destiny like a bright red suprise I found in our local salvage yard. :)

SS's without a SC or a TC are 2.4 liter. I think they are all 172 HP. This is an automatic. On a couple of years they badged the SS with a NA engine.

It could also be a lower trim level that a previous owner badged as an SS. I've seen plenty of Bimmers and Mercs with M or AMG badging that weren't actually performance models. Verify by checking the VIN.

I'll try to swing by the salvage yard tonight and take a few more photos, plus one of the Vin. I'm also temped to take a spare battery down with jumpers and see what happens. (But checking fluids first*)

Yeah, I did not think about people badging it... Did the seats have the embroidered SS on them right in the middle?

Well, I got more photos and a vin number. I also found another standard cobalt (2nd half of the photos)

First set of images, the SS Cobalt:

A 2006 2.4 is a good find. Those were built with forged components. Great engine to add a turbo to.
I was sort of hoping to find a supercharger version. But* Better over the standard one. Plus, I didn't know about the forged parts. Nice.

I'm sort of worried to ask what he wants for it, he quoted me $500 for this 78' Monza. A v6 with most of the floor pan rusted out...

I would't give more than $500. No exhaust manifold!!! My experience is not good when no exhaust manifold. One of the exhaust valves is open, who knows what is in the cylinder. The front right wheel looks whacked, probably a bent subframe. What I looked for in mine was damage that was isolated from the parts needed for the Goblin.

That ain’t gonna work. There’s no intake manifold or throttle on it. Would not buy that withought sticking a borescope into the head it might be all rusted up.

Oh nvm. I see you said that’s the other cobalt.

Yep, not confusing at all have photos of 2 red cars... HA the manafold that is missing is on the non-SS model. The SS model is intact, minus the damage in the front.
