Model Years/Trims with 4 wheel disc brakes?

So while my build date is probably a long ways off, I enjoy torturing myself by researching these projects to death.

I am not so much concerned with the turbo vs supercharged considerations as I am with narrowing down my donor search to those models that have 4 wheel disc brakes instead of rear drums. I have been told that while adding a supercharger is relatively cost-effective, converting from drum to disc brakes is not. (To be honest I didn't think they even made cars with drum brakes as late as 2005.)

Any clarification is appreciated!

Welcome to the forum!

I've got some good news for you. Disc brakes for the front are included in the Goblin kit. You'll just use your donor's front brakes on the rear of your Goblin to have disc all the way around.

In our testing, the base model Cobalt brakes all the way around are just what the Goblin needs. At the track we had no fading issues (even with street pads) and everyone that has driven or ridden in the car agrees that the car stops on a dime.

In the near future we might try out the Cobalt SS brakes but we are concerned about them being too large. They might cause the brakes to be touchy and they will definitely add a bunch of unsprung weight. We might be able to use the rear SS brakes, but they have a large offset compared to the fronts, so mounting them could be tough. Right now we recommend base model disc brakes on all four corners.

Oh, the good thing is ALL goblins have disc's front and rear. The rear discs are part to the front engined Cobalt that is now in the rear of the car. The front of the car brakes are also disc's. The Doyles have machined all the parts to mount an extra set of discs and calipers on the front.
