My CoPart/ABetterBid Experience

We recommend caution when choosing ABetterBid.com. Their shipping department is so slow that you will be charged storage fees while you wait for them to get someone to pick up your car. Instead. Go to AutoBidMaster.com.

My car was purchased on Copart and I used A Better Bid as a Copart Broker. Normally you need a business/dealer license to pick on salvage title vehicles at Copart. They charged $200 and also arranged shipping to AL to TX for $550. It ended at $2600 on CoPart and all said and done I paid around $3800 delivered at my door. I had listed it on uShip as well, but A Better Bid was able to secure the best rate since they are also a transportation broker. Shipping only took about a week and I highly recommend this broker.

The price was a bit more than I was expecting, but I should be able to get a lot out of in in terms of unused parts that I can sell. I also figured I would want to turbo/supercharge down the line and would rather have it already done for me in a reliable package.

DanPerryy mentioned having to do some extra work to get the title from ABetterBid. Have you got your title?

Yup I received it about a month after delivery. All I had to do was e-sign some release form and they mailed it direct.

Hmm, I didn't pursue the title for mine...I thought with it being totaled I would only need to show proof of ownership? This may be a state to state difference in laws though (Kansas has a pretty low barrier).

Here in Texas the process is made much simpler if you have the salvage title. After building the car, you go to the local auto theft task force so that they can run the partial VIN on the engine block. Having your salvage title on hand makes it easy for them to confirm that the engine wasn't stolen.

In Kansas you will need the VIN of the engine/trans to get the assembled car thru the Kansas State Highway Patrol inspection. Easiest way is to have a copy of the title but I also had a listing of the VIN on my receipt (for a transmission) from a salvage yard that the inspectors accepted.

My experience was ~ 10+ years ago when I built my Stalker V6 (sold long ago). ;)

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the info, it is appreciated. The VIN is part of the bill of sale and matches the parts..."shouldn't " be an issue. Okay, which emoticon is for nervous laugh?

Errorunknown, you got a great car. How is your build going? Were you able to sell anything from the donor to recoup cost?
