Looking good Ken! Any word yet on if your stock driver side axle will be too long? I have been trying to button up a few other projects, so I haven’t got anything done on my build except order all the random stuff I am upgrading or replacing. Work has me traveling a lot, so it may be winter before I can really get going. Plenty of time if I need to order custom axles though I guess.
Thanks!! I don’t have any of the original axles as I went with Turbo Hubs and my originals were SC Hubs, so different axles and sold the originals. I do however have the lengths needed (as measured from transmission hub/seal to the back of hub at the seal:

Passenger side length: 17 3/8”
Drivers side length: 15 5/8”

I am ordering Stage 2 axles from Drive Shaft Shop right now for it

Hope this helps!

Awesome sauce. I will probably bite the bullet and just have them make a pair for me. I’m too lazy to clean up my original TC axles. Plus they have 100k on them and the eventual plan is to drop in a racing block from ZZP. Not sure I’ll get to 585whp... but I’d be fine with 450 lol

Yep, I think they are worth it, especially for racing...they are $420 a side, but they are rated up to like 600+ HP

Evil, would like to get your old axles if you are getting different ones.

A lot going on with the build recently, especially all the small stuff (plumbing, setup fuel system, battery wired in, etc)...the big news though is I got her on the ground! These are the rain tires and wheels (Hoosier H2O 225/45-15’s on Jegs 15x8 wheels) for Autocross....dry tires will be Hoosier A7’s 295/35-15 on Jegs 15x10 wheels. Engine harness being built now and expecting first start in a couple weeks! Also got the Hauler ordered (United Super Hauler 8.5 x 16 w/ extra height) for the 2020 race season.

Fun stuff!

Looks great so many good things going on with your build. Have you put any thought into spring rates ? Do you know what speed your f40 will top out at in 2nd gear ?

Thanks! I know I will have to mess around with the spring rates to get it right, but haven’t put much more thought than that right now. Not sure on the F40 in 2nd, but believe it will be comparable, if not a little better based on gear ratio, than the stock F35...just initial thought.

I put this info together last February, in the 'F40 Will It Work' thread:
I've seen some discussion that the F40 transmission has 'steeper' gears and its mph to rpm range is too tall for the Goblin. For those who may be curious (as I was) in the differences between the F35 and F40 in gearing, I ran the comparison at 2500 rpm to 6500 rpm mph range for each gear, starting rpm at next gear when shifting at 6500 rpm and *cruise in top gear at 75 mph:

F35 - 4.05:1 ring & pinion ratio (MU3) with 25.0 inch diameter tires
1st - 14 mph to 35 mph range
Drop to 3380 rpm at 6500 rpm shift
2nd - 26 mph to 68 mph range
Drop to 4360 rpm at 6500 rpm shift
3rd - 39 mph to 101 mph range
Drop to 4900 rpm at 6500 rpm shift
4th - 52 mph to 134 mph range
Drop to 5110 rpm at 6500 rpm shift
5th - 66 mph to 171 mph range
*75 mph cruise in 5th gear is 2850 rpm

F40 - 3.76:1 ring & pinion ratio (MU9) with 25.0 diameter tires
1st - 13 mph to 33 mph range
Drop to 3380 rpm at 6500 rpm shift
2nd - 24 mph to 63 mph range
Drop to 4360 rpm at 6500 rpm shift
3rd - 36 mph to 94 mph range
Drop to 4980 rpm at 6500 rpm shift
4th - 47 mph to 122 mph range
Drop to 5260 rpm at 6500 rpm shift
5th - 58 mph to 151 mph range
Drop to 5430 rpm at 6500 rpm shift
6th - 70 mph to 181 mph range
*75 mph cruise in 6th gear is 2700 rpm

Based on the above comparison, the F35 and F40 are nearly identical in gearing - based on rpm drop at gear shift and useable speed range - in the first 3 gears. These are the important gears for racing and street driving. The remaining gears are shorter ratio in the F40 which will result in faster acceleration at higher speeds (long straight on road race course). Cruise in top gear at 75 mph is a more leisurely 2700 rpm in the F40, for those looking to use their Goblin as a (semi) daily driver.

Awesome, thanks! I am running 22” Diameter tires...what is the calculation formula? Interested in what it would be for mine with 22’s...thanks!

Ran it for 22.0 inch diameter tires. Keep in mind the gear ratios didn't change so the RPM drop between gears remains the same. Same parameters: the comparison at 2500 rpm to 6500 rpm mph range for each gear, starting rpm at next gear when shifting at 6500 rpm and *cruise in top gear at 75 mph:

F40 - 3.76:1 ring & pinion ratio (MU9) with 22.0 diameter tires

Drop to 3380 rpm at 6500 rpm shift
2nd - 21 mph to 55 mph range
Drop to 4360 rpm at 6500 rpm shift
3rd - 31 mph to 83 mph range
Drop to 4980 rpm at 6500 rpm shift
4th - 41 mph to 108 mph range
Drop to 5260 rpm at 6500 rpm shift
5th - 51 mph to 133 mph range
Drop to 5430 rpm at 6500 rpm shift
6th - 61 mph to 159 mph range
*75 mph cruise in 6th gear is 3060 rpm

Dual rear heat exchangers? Looks like you have the gauge panel pretty much complete. Amazing how clean the front area of the car looks without the brake booster and stock fluid reservoirs. Will the SCCA require any additional frame bracing or other safety equipment? Looks fantastic!

Left is oil cooler and right is SC cooler. Except for axles, engine harness, body side panels, and wrap, all that is left is all the small stuff to do.

For SCCA Autocross, no additional bracing required, although I have added some. Helmet is required, but nothing else.

Thanks!!

This is such an awesome build! Can you provide a little more information on how you set that steering shaft up? Looks nice and clean and lower than stock. I'm looking for ways to strip out things I am not using and one of those is the large steering assist module.

I'm also curious about the adjustable swaybar links.

The steering uses a Double D end U-Joint going into the steering rack and a 36 spline 3/4” on the other end of the U-Joint. Steering shaft is 36 spline on one end which I had to cut a little off on the other end....welded on Quick release for MPI Steering wheel and Quick Car release hub. The 5” drop down steering shaft bracket is from Summit Racing. I also used a 3/4” steering shaft support down at the other end by the steering rack for extra support. Very, very solid steering setup

The adjustable links use 1/2” rod ends threading into 6” hollow aluminum radius rods...

Hope this helps....thanks!

You are planning on the 400hp range with your LSJ SC build?
I'm curious what parts & mods you put into your engine, as I am making my LSJ build plan.
Justin Reed and other high hp builds go turbo, but I like the SC for low end torque.
You going E85 or race fuel? Water/methanol injection? Boost referenced fuel pump, injectors, pulley, pistons, connecing rods? So many options!

There is a lot of options and I haven’t explored in detail how to get there yet...just a goal at this point
