Curious to know what kind of expansion tank you'll be running. I'm finding it a royal pain to get all the air out even with my filler neck being the highest spot.

Canton 80-242 tank. Has 1/2” npt both top and bottom. I’ll have to fabricate brackets. The only other similar option I found was the Edelbrock EDB-51-7100, but its ugly.

Moroso makes the 63766 can, which is an easier mounting option, but the top bung is is only 3/8” NPT. With it being aluminum, it could probably be drilled out and tapped with a 1/2” NPT tap.

Well... Not progress on the Gobln per se, but it is progress on my Goblin because I am sick of having a 100 degree garage that is too miserable to work inside.

I just scored a 4600 CFM evap cooler. I will mount it outside and run it through the exterior door. I will run on a thermostat to keep the garage @ 78-83 degrees from now on. This should also cut down on the house AC electric bill since my adjoining walls and attic will no longer be storing so much heat from the garage.

Yes, I know this is the slowest build log in history, but getting this done relies on a comfortable working space because I sweat too much. I got the cooler installed through the side door of my garage and completely rewired it with a purge pump, relay box & thermostat. Garage is nice & cool now. I am ordering my oil/air seperator and heat exchanger parts next week and will get to work welding up my mounting tabs.

So I rechecked my measurements and I’ve got everything ordered for my intake charge cooling. Varimax Pump & Canton reservoir are on backorder. Overkill? who knows; but here in the summer the temps are over 100 degrees and I want as much efficiency as possible while minimizing heat soak and IAT2 temps. This also adds reliability with no additional weight. I spoke with Derale about the 25 row radiator and they said it would work perfectly for this application; no flow restriction on the pump whatsoever. He also said I was the third person this week to call inquiring about using it for this specific type of application.

I’ve got my heat exchanger and coolant resorvior mocked up in their approximate future locations. Can anyone see any potential interference issues with this setup?

The coolant resorvoir is high enough to clear the fuel fill hose.

Not much going on for the last couple of months. I was going to weld up tabs and try and get the frame powdercoated but due to the nature of my project, I’ve decided to build up my crate long block first instead and do a full mock-up of the engine/trans to assess the fitament of my intercoolng system and address any tabs that will be needed for wiring/hoses. Currently stockpiling my savings account for the zzp Black Friday sale and I’m going to order everything I’ll need to get the engine mock up completed all at once.

Went to race karts at a local gokart track today. Decent track. They allow track time for any vehicle, and are getting ready to build another huge road course track adjacent to the current track that can host everything from F1 to NASCAR. They’ll even let me store an extra set of wheels and slicks there. That got me pretty excited, as it will be fun to be able to take the Goblin to the road course any time I want.

Today I got online and found a few good engine parts diagrams. Sat down next to my crate engine and evaluated what parts I still needed. Ordered all of the remaining required brackets, lines, nuts & bolts from GM Parts Direct. Ordered an intake, throttle body, Stainless O2 sensor downpipe, and complete clutch assembly from ZZP.

Once the parts arrive, I will marry the engine & transmission and begin a mock up so I can derermine fitament issues and add any support tabs I will need to weld on to the frame.

zzp parts came in. Went with the SB stage 4+ clutch and factory flywheel. Also got intake manifold, throttle body, and steel O2 housing downpipe. Still waiting on the GM parts.
Today I ordered the OTTP FE5 delrin and solid control arm bushings. Still looking for a short throw shifter. I think I will buy the one made by Billet Specialties based on the price and reviews.

I ended up meeting a neighbor who happens to be the lead tuner at a reputable speed shop here. He will be able to work with me on my HP Tuners file to fine tune whatever base file zzp gives me. Its awesome that he lives right down the street.

Nice box of goodies!

I wish I had a really good tuner I could trust close to me, like down the street. I'm not a believer in the canned tune files from ZZP. They may be good to get at start, but there is nothing like finishing up the job.

Well, its finally on! Got all of my factory GM parts to build up the crate engine (all of it was special order, lol). Every piece of my drivetrain will be brand new except for the transmission case & internals. I also ordered HP tuners and an Aeroforce gauge during the zzp sale. My next plan is to do a full mock up with engine, trans and all wiring in order to resolve any potential issues with all of the custom stuff I’m adding. Afterwards it will all come back apart and the frame will go in for powdercoat.

Got the engine free of the pallet and up in the air. That was a challenge. Got everything bolted up; finger tight for now because I still need to order my Powell racing liquid/air seperator and that will require modifications to the intake manifold.

I just bolted everything on while it was on the pallet unstrapped. Then slide it over onto a dolly to move around. It was a pain....lol.

Powell Racing liquid/air seperator V.3 came in today.

That should put me at ready to get the engine finished & hooked up to the transmission for mock up. Unfortunately I’m in the middle of landscaping my entire backyard right now.
