I'm 6' 4" and I need a bit more room for my legs under the steering wheel. Adding heat and AC.

I'm still kind of surprised that you were able to drive the second prototype.

I will need heat and AC for my Goblin and a tow bar connection for towing behind a motorhome.

Adam and Lonny have sourced an aftermarket heat and AC unit. I am trying to use most (much) of the stock Cobalt unit (compressor, heater core and AC evaporator core). We need an aftermarket condenser coil. I have found a suitable condenser unit, one that Adam and Lonny will also use on the car.

I tore apart the Cobalt heat and AC unit (way too big to use in the car as is), removing the fan, evaporator coil, and heater core along with the motor controlled flaps. I am stacking the fan and cores and the resulting unit will fit in the Goblin. I'll keep posted my progress.

My donor is all torn down - completely stripped. Yesterday I pulled the "last and most important re-usable" parts - a couple of rubber 1" hole plugs. I am going to RTV (silicone glue) my floor pans to the chassis (in addition to the fasteners) and I thought it would be nice to have some drain plugs. I thought to glue them down would avoid rattles in the future. We will see.

A couple of other things, I'm a grandpa (and a great grandpa) and my wife and I have a lot of grandkids. We will tow our Goblin behind our motorhome (I'm going to make a custom car cover) and we go see the grandkids often. No place for the kids to sit. I saw the rear bench seat in the SS and it has two nice buckets (probably not too comfortable to for a long trip) but it also has a nice center seat area even more uncomfortable. I'm making a 3 passenger Goblin with air and heat. Get that! I got Toms SS rear seats. Planning on using all the rear seat belts (3 passenger) from the donor. The top mechanism of the rear seat belts is mounted high rather than low like the front belts.

Now I starting the cleaning and painting of the stripped parts. Awaiting the construction of my stretched City chassis.

Nice pile of parts Dan!

What are you planning on using for painting the parts after they are cleaned? Not specifically what color scheme, but what products...

thanks,
John

I bought Rustoleam primer and paint, some very temp paint - going to paint the exhaust manifold - and primer. Some engine paint 500 degree for the valve cover, Using the same paint for the subframe. Caliper cleaner and paint. We'll see how it works.

Dash dis-assembly
Took me about 3 hours to get it all torn down. I tagged all the wires and being old I stand back and admire my work often.

I am building a heater and AC unit for the Goblin from donor parts.
The donor parts I am using:
The compressor
The evaporator coil (and capillary)
The heater core
Heater / AC fan & motor
Heater motor speed resistor
Fan control switch - I'm trying to use it - it is part of the dash heater / AC control panel that I am not using

New parts:
Condenser order the same size as the radiator
Flex ducting
Heater valve
AC piping / tubing

It was a bit of work to figure out the sequence to remove the parts. The air bag holds a lot together. The circular fire wall panel is also something that I removed to get the entire dash apart.

I have been quiet for a time but this last week I started earnest prepping my donor parts, cleanup, prime and paint. I am nearly done. I also installed heated seat elements in the backs of my seats. I am using the the back seat of an SS (Thomas' seat) because I wanted to take a grand-kid or two for rides. The SS has a nice little middle bench yet a couple of nice deep buckets for the driver and other passenger. I will put the seat belts from the rear of the SS in the car. Here are some pictures.

For the donor strip project hours thus far:
about 24-30 hours for dismantle
8-12 hours for clean, prime and paint
2-4 hours of just admiring my work

I also ordered and received my wheels and tires. I bought 225-45 R15 for the rear and 195-50 R15 for the front. I am using Hankook Ventus R-S3's I looked at lots of reviews and thees get very high ratings. The wheels are Drag

Grey - I think. Black calipers. We have an SS seat that has red to match the highlighted components, wheels, valve cover, axles, sway bar etc.

Wheels look awesome! All your parts look great. I have not tried painting my coils yet. Im thinking there will be a lot of over spray so I will have to wait until it warms up and do it outside. Mowed two days ago, last night it snowed...

I am not envious of your weather. We drove P1 around town a little bit yesterday and the weather is even better today.

The coil springs are covered with some plastic material. I painted mine - will have to wait and see how they hold up.

Yep, both automatics. I was initially looking for a manual supercharged but after riding in the normally aspirated automatic it was exactly as fast as the normally aspirated 5 speed (side by side drag race). I figured I would put a turbo or supercharger on it later. I bought a supercharger, manifold, most of the parts from a Cobalt SS. I've driven a supercharged Goblin, it is faster, but the normally aspirated is plenty quick. A second benefit of the auto for me is that I have lots of grandkids. In addition to letting the older ones drive it, I am putting the rear seat out of an SS as my front seat. It fits perfectly and has cramped seating for 3 - just like sitting the back seat of a Cobalt. I can then take my wife and a grandkid or two grandkids. I also have the smallest tires (15") 225/45's. This will make my top speed (with the HHR gear ratio) top out at about 118.
