I saw the original build thread on the Grassroots Motorsport forum. I'm still in awe of the skill and ingenuity displayed in building these amazing kit cars. You are making me want to quit my current project and start on that. But I will do one next!
Background: I inherited my Grandpa's 1951 Ford F1 Truck. I wanted to keep his stock but also wanted a totally custom-off-the-wall-piss-the-purists-off project. I have mountains of 3000GT VR-4 cars and parts laying around so naturally I wanted to use what I have and what I know.
I'm using the front clip on the 3000GT in the back of the truck. so far it's going very well. I just need to work out the shift cables going to the back, finding clearance for the accessory pulleys to clear the truck frame, and working out the rear suspension.
What I am struggling with right now, and the reason I am so interested in what you have done: It looks like for the kit cars you simply replaced the steering rack with some adjustable rods with a tie rod end on one side? Was that all that was needed to stop the wheels from turning?
I also think I'll need to change my struts to a small diameter so I can fit larger wheels and tires.
I'll have around 400hp starting out and go up to 500-600hp later on.
Here is a link to the build thread, I hope that isn't against the rules: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1491912-mid-engine-twin-turbo-51-f1-build-thread-pic-heavy.html
