Hello everyone my name is Jake, just went to the auction today in the middle of a snow emergency and bought the donor Cobalt T/C. So sorry to guy in WI AND NY but this was right in my back yard.
I’d like to thank you all for this opportunity, the info provided here will definitely make this a fun and amazing build. I have plenty of ideas right now, I’ll soon order the frame and start the official build.
I love cars, guns, and motorcycles but honestly this kit car is the most exciting build, when it comes buying an auction car. I have bought over 70 insurance cars and let me tell you repairing cars by your self is never fun. It takes someone else who appreciates the work and that’s why I’m here.
So this auction was a no start- no drive, wrongly listed as automatic and auctioner never even mentioned it was a SS. So for you guys looking at cars online copy and paste vin and do a few searches, later I will post more about the vin info. For this particular car I knew it had brembo brakes, turbo, actual mileage, 1 owner, no prior accidents, manual 5 speed.
The no start is no big deal the guys that take these photos don’t usually get cobalts started due to trunk battery plus battery probably has 4 volts, key will always stay in ignition if battery is low.
I checked my local dealer guide for Manheim and found only 6 2009 SS brought to auction non accidents. Average national price with buyer fees around $3,700 shipped mabey $900 more
Which I have seen some pay with shipping from copart so just be patient and wait for a donor that makes the most sense to your build, consider the costs because In the end We’re trying to stay below budget doing almost everything in house.
