Windscreen: Worth the money, or roll your own?

I'm starting to put together the parts list needed to get #13 whipped into shape. I'm trying to decide if the windscreen is worth the money, or if I should fabricate something that attaches to the cage?

Were I to roll my own I would use shaft collars with wrench flats, drill/tap a hole in the flat to accommodate a machine screw, build a frame from aluminum, and then use plexiglass for the screen itself. That's probably half the cost of the DF wind screen. More important, I've seen windscreens like on our cars break pretty easily. Using some plexiglass from Home Depot is cheap, and I can cut a couple windscreens and have them ready to go. I'm also not thinking about this for wind noise reduction or protection, but rather just to "kick up" the air flow a bit to reduce helmet buffeting at speed.

Not sure if you found this thread:

There are some of us who have trimmed our stock windscreen to get a little more air flow into the passenger area. I gave mine a little more curve.
