Most garage's I have owned, I put a 4"x4"x10' up in the attic, spanning over 5 ceiling joists, then put a 10" long eye bolt thru the 4x4 and ceiling.

Use a come-a-long to lift the Cobalt shell, then drive the trailer under the Cobalt. Also useful for pulling engines out of cars.

I used a similar process. I used 4x4's across car dollies throughout my tear down in a storage unit. It allowed me to move the shell around as needed during tear down. When I was done, I pushed it out of the unit and up onto my tilting snowmobile trailer.

I used a Harbor Freight furniture dolly! The shell only weighs about 1100 lbs IIRC, so those dollies can handle it at least one time. The scrapyard that took it sent a flatbed to pick it up. It actually worked really well because the angled bed kept the dolly from going up, and then they just dragged it the rest of the way once it was on the flatbed.

I stripped mine down to just over 800 lbs. The guy at the yard was surprised how light it was, but was then pleased there was no gas tank or anything he had to deal with.

Good point! I left my rear suspension in because it wasn't in good enough shape to bother taking out beyond what was needed for the kit.

I took mine out because a guy said he needed it real bad. I probably spent more time removing the rear axle than stripping the entire car. He then backed out because he didn't have the money. The joys of selling stripped parts on FB Marketplace. lol

As much of a pain as selling parts can be, I think it has been worth it so far as I have recouped over $1700 selling parts. The rear axle and doors are the only major parts I have left at this point.

im about ready to send both with the donor to the scrap yard, sick of dealing with idiots wanting me to ship things or give it to them. I wish I had some place to park it and then fill it with Tannerite and blow it up LOL

Same. I have pulled a ton of parts for people that had cash in hand but mysteriously disappeared when I told them it was ready for them to come get. I'm done selling, just scraping or trashing everything. If you do some creative resizing with a Sawzall the bulk of the interior will fit in 4 large black trash bags.

I’ve been throwing out dash and interior pieces as I was taking it apart because it just wasn’t worth my time to try and sell it. In fact other than the seats I don’t have much interior left

I had my donor on a set of cheap HF car dollies. When it was time to scrap it, I used my engine hoist to lift the front up onto the back of my trailer. I moved the dollies up on the trailer for the front. I then lifted the rear of the donor up and rolled it all the way onto the trailer. Went back to the front and lifted it enough to get my dollies back out. It looks kinda sketchy when you first start, but I've done multiple shells that way without issues. The scrapyard has a gripper excavator so they just pick it up off the trailer.

Took mine to the local scrap yard being careful not to break any glass so the windows could be used/resold etc... The scrap yard put a forklift through the windows to lift it off of the trailer. Lol
