Engine replacement for an LSJ

I am trying to see what is a compatible engine choice to replace my LSJ engine. I am not having much look even finding a long block LSJ.

I wasn’t able to find any long blocks. All complete assemblies for $2k+ with shipping or $1500 local pickup only. Ended up doing the complete engine rebuild while I wait for my chassis at the fab shop and powder coat.

Only other option is to find a complete donor to pull from to rebuild as a secondary engine.

Would this engine from ZZ Performance work as a replacement ? It’s an LNF type.

No it won’t. My understanding is some of the lsj components fit differently on the Gen 3 blocks so the block has to be modified. That’s why zzp offers a Gen 3 LSJ block here https://zzperformance.com/collections/ecotec/products/gen-3-lsj-short-block

I did forged rods and pistons for my rebuild. $400 for the rods, $540 for pistons. So an extra $1k for forged internals, ya not a bad deal.

The 2003+ Saab 93 with the 2.0 Turbo engine. That is a turbocharged version of the LSJ engine with a few minor changes. IIRC the camshaft specs are very slightly different and the cylinder head/intake manifold hardware is M6 instead of M8.
