Frame coating

Has anyone looked into plating the chassis instead of powdercoat?

Wondering if a copper plate would look cool vs copper powdercoat.

I am struggling deciding on color, I’m not creative with colors and aesthetic design. I generally do my best with mechanical art... ugly but functional...

I'd do powder personally as copper plating will be a nightmare to maintain cleanliness. Will look amazing though!!!

I was thinking a clear over it maybe a bit of acid etch first to give it a little tarnish in the seams.

I was looking into this as well. I have a can of rattle can copper and looked at plating. Problem is for this size, it is all industrial plating and dull matte finish. would be a bear to polish but my inspiration was this:

I always thought that this picture was a wrap and not a liquid coating.

No, actually solid coper plate rather than aluminum plate.

plate only microns thick.
probably only a few lbs for the whole chassis.

Heavier than the aluminum version but with a 427 who cares.

Indeed, but imagine road debris chipping the copper off. You couldn’t fix it without re-plating it and that means a full strip down

Just seems impractical to me. The look is pretty badass though! Maybe rose gold chrome wrap would get close to that look? (not for the frame, obviously)

Show Queen, costs a bunch,, can't do much with them and only exist to look pretty. IMO if you can't drive it why have it.

Yeah I was thinking a copper strike plate .05-.1 mil thickness then clear powdercoat over for protection... I would wager it wouldn’t weigh as more than the powdercoat. probably too expensive but would look cool.
