Harness bar

I’m going to be installing NRG seats. I know a lot of people have talked about the harness bar being too low. I’ve talked to DF about weld in one for me and they are willing too. My (and theirs) question is how much higher does the bar need to be. I.e 2-3” or more?

Your search information may come up with different measurements, but this should get you close to where you should be. What that measurement translate to in a Goblin I don't know. Variables will be types of seat used. Where your individual shoulders are in relation to the seats (long torso/shorter torso). Where are your shoulders in relationship to the normal upper firewall bar, when sitting in your mounted seat.

Dale E beat me to it!

Depending on what product data you look at, the shoulder harness should be between 0 and 20 degrees below your shoulders.
So to determine where the harness bar needs to go is going to be dependent on your seats and how tall you are.

For that reason I am going to wait to get my frame, install the seats, then have a shop weld in a bar.

For my harness bar we installed my seat and used the opening in the seat to determine how high to put the bar. If I remember correctly it ended up being ~4-5" higher. I don't know if the cutouts in the seat for the harness are the same between manufactures(I doubt it is). I say you either have to send one of your seats to DF to mock up or measure your seat and try to figure out how high the cutouts will be with the seat mounted.

Some folks use an adjustable harness bar. This would be useful if your Goblin was sold, so the new owner could re-adjust the bar to their height? I don't know if they would qualify for a track or other racing event. Make sure it has some stoppers on it, so the seatbelts stay in place and don't slide to far or to close together. DF could even make this an optional purchase item if they have time to develop one and demand dictates a need.

I think the 4"-5" dimension is where mine ended up. Although wrapping the harness around the bar is better, you could likely adjust some from there with a minimal amount of work by welding tabs to bolt the harness to.

I don't think that bolt in harness bar will work as is since the diagonal will be in the way.

That's what I get for not being a Goblin builder/owner! So you curve the ends and it will look like a bathroom grab rail and go around the diagonal.
Continue on Goblin builders. You all are doing amazing work!! Good fun!

The harness bar example from Dale does have an offset built in, so it would clear the diagonal bar in a Goblin. But I don't believe a Jeep bar would fit the Goblin dimension. Nice thing with the bolt on piece it can be adjusted for height.
The bolt on knuckle ends can be purchased for a reasonable price and a 1 1/2 inch 0.90 (plus) wall tube is cheap. Would just need the bends on each end to make the necessary clearance.

don't forget that the ends of that hoop are angled slightly on the goblin. Couldn't make it adjustable in this instance unless you had 2 pipes that slide onto each other (think curtin rod).
