Not Goblin related ( Husky Air Compressor connecting rod)

I had to replace the bearings on my air compressor and came upon something I’ve never seen before on the bottom of the connecting rod.
This flat piece of metal on the bottom ,
Does anybody no the purpose of this setup

Are they extending into an oil bath below it? If so, splashing a little oil up and around?

Looks like an oil slinger. Small engines don't have oil pumps, they splash oil from the oil pan, up on the parts.

Tear apart an old flathead Briggs or Tecumseh engine. They all have them.
