When selling items online what should be my preferred method of payment?

Paypal, maybe using friends and family if the parties trust each other.

I second PayPal. It protects both parties... Also, Bitcoins; but I do not accept partial coins or issue refunds on overage of value. Most don't choose that option.

Another vote for PayPal. As @Gtstorey mentioned above, you can use friends and family to save on the fees, but only do it if you absolutely trust the person as F&F transfers aren’t covered under the dispute protections.
