I am doing the same thing but will put a nylock nut on instead of a rivetnut
So 1/4-20 on the side panels and 10-24 on the tunnel.

Or make your own tabs out of 1x1/8 steel strapping which can be purchased tjat has 1/4 inch holes drilled - or buy solid and drill your own if that's your thing - and cut to whatever size you need with a saw/grinder.
I usually try to use 5mm at minimum. I found that the smaller ones dont get very good thread bite and tend to strip the mandrel in short time. Also, stay away from aluminum rivnuts.
