For those of you like me. When you get back into you car after it’s been sitting in the sun (Autocross, Car show) and you get to feel that wonderful feeling of you skin melting. I’ve found an all be it not the best looking solution. A collapsible windshield screen IMG_1173.jpeg

I was give some very nice awning material from the Alu-Cab brand off road awnings. I was planning to carry that around. Not only will it cover the whole cabin but it’s water proof as well so will make a great emergency rain cover. I may actually tailor it to fit better once I get the car done.

@escapepilot do you have the drawing for your roof?

Or at least the radius of the corners.
I don’t. I put cardboard on top and traced it with a carpenter’s pencil to give some clearance. Then traced the cardboard pattern onto butcher paper to clean it all up.

I sent my paper pattern to @Robinjo but mine was 4 inches longer front to rear. He may still have it and could send it to you for postage. If he can’t, I should be able to trace another one this weekend to send you. I made an OSB wood template to use with a router to cut the acrylic so making another paper template is easy.

Made some progress on the roof. Made over 10 templates, but have a final version ready. Will cut some plexiglass soon and see how that turns out. The wood looks just so cheap :D

The roof is split in 2 parts, since my CNC machine is not large enough. I probably use the commercial laser I have access to for the final version.

If someone is interested. Shoot me a message. I can have multiple produced.

@Gtstorey Looking at your roof again. How happy are you with the front overhang? I think that’s something I will do too. Every bit of shade is beneficial in Florida. Do you have a full picture of your car?

I have to admit to not using the roof very much. From a functional stand point, I like the overhang, it really helps keeping the sun out of your eyes. It does vibrate pretty bad at higher speeds of about 85mph+, but for my back road driving, about the only time I go that fast is passing other cars.

It's made from 3/16 polycarbonate. You might consider adding a stiffening rib if you are going to spend a lot of time at high speeds.
