P0101 is a Performance/Rationality type of DTC which usually involve two or more separate but related signals being checked against each other to make sure they match.
P0101 in particular compares measured MAF against a calculation of expected airflow from the throttle angle and engine speed...
Trans is back in and no more ticking noise!
Remaining To Do:
- Engine coolant fill
- Intercooler loop fill
- Parking brake cables
- Rear alignment
- Flash ECU with Ghostknife's baseline tune
- Update fuel injector specs (min pulse width and max flow rate)
- Compression test
- Cut counterweight...
Pulling the clutch apart showed wear marks on two of the eight small tabs on the back side of the clutch disc. The two tabs with wear marks were 1-2mm taller than the other tabs which had no wear marks. As far as I can tell, there's no need for the two taller ones to stay taller, so i ground...
The first half (easy half) can be done! Just me and my tools and some swearing. Yet again the Quickjacks were super nice to have easy adjustability on the frame height. TBD whether flywheel bolt clearance is actually the issue
I do have a shop crane which means i can hold it in place with some flexibility while unbolting the trans. Shouldn't be as bad as the first time if it works.
Good news and bad news: I got a ton of work done and had the Goblin at 80% of the way to roadworthiness by Friday night, but then I turned the axles with clutch in and it produced a "tick-tick-tick" sound which @SmsDetroit helped me figure out is almost certainly my new flywheel bolts contacting...
Powertrain back hanging in the Goblin again after the upgrades. Four evenings and one Friday left to get it running before Dream Cruise.
Mating the trans to engine was just as fun as I remembered. Ended up using a ratchet strap hung off the boom of my shop crane to suspend the trans at the...
Swapped the flywheel, clutch assembly, and clutch slave cylinder. Measuring the air gap (very imprecisely) gave 9/32" or roughly 0.280 which is hopefully close enough to the desired spec (0.150-0.200 according to the ZZP video). The smallest spacer they sell is 0.200 which would shrink the gap...
Over the weekend I installed the ZZP modular pulley hub (thanks to @Robinjo for loaning me his pulley puller!), adjustable belt tensioner, and phenolic intake spacer. I also checked the PCV valve function and it seems to work fine which might not actually be good news since I was having the...
My first install ran the right side cable under the subframe on the left first, then under the rear beam of the subframe to cross over to the right side and vice versa for the other cable. Used self-tapping screws and the rubber+sheet metal cable holder clamps attached to the under side of the...
Fuel injectors swapped, which was actually way easier than I expected. After pulling the old injectors, I checked the intake valves for carbon buildup and cylinders 1-3 had some light deposits, but it didn't seem too bad.
Installing the shiny exhaust manifold studs was not as pain-free, since I...
Timing chain & guides maintenance done. I found some metal shavings in the timing chain tensioner threads which worry me a bit. I probably should drop the oil pan and check for other metal bits. Maybe clean out the oil pan and check it again after running it for a while.
Finally(!) got some uninterrupted vacation time while the kid is at daycare and the wife is at work. Yesterday and today I disconnected (and labelled) all the chassis to powertrain electrical connections and dropped the subframe, then the engine+trans.
QuickJacks have been very helpful. They...
