Backlog/ETA on a new Stage 1 orders?

Hello everyone,
I'm interested in building a goblin. The Build & Price page says Stage 1 is estimated 10 weeks lead time, is this realistic? I've read some posts about people who've been waiting a year for some parts after paying in full and still don't have everything, so I'm anxious to start a winter project and have a donor car disassembled in my garage if I'm going to be waiting 12+ months to have something.

How does the initial process happen? It looks like stage 1 kits are built in runs, when is the next run going to happen? Are there any orders currently waiting for their stage 1 kit? If 10 weeks isn't realistic, about how long would it be if I put a deposit down by the end of November?

Also, something that I've been confused about and haven't seen a definitive answer on - are all the frames powder coated and included in the normal kit price, or do they come bare? The only thing I've seen about them being powder coated and included in the price is when you pay for the % builds, but every finished stage 1 picture I've seen is of a painted frame. Is powder coating an option? If so, how much?

I just spoke with Adam last week about order times. I was planning on ordering my chassis and the other stages at the same time at the end of November. 12 weeks put you at beginning of February. I do not want to see mine till beginning of March due to a pending move. He said that should not be a problem to have it ready by then.
Just my 2 cents. I'm sure Adam will give a better answer for the leadtime.

Yes that's what he said.

I am going to paint mine. Using a 2 part urethane automotive paint from PPG or DuPont. I just feel it will be easier to repair if I need to add a bracket for something down the road. Floor pan, firewall and fuel tank will all get powder coated.

I would not paint again. But that’s not because it was difficult it’s because I used rustoleum and not a two part like Karter so the durability is trash. Frame is completely covered in rock chips.

Daniel, I inquired about powder coating previously. They can have the frames powder coated for you locally, but its an additional cost and you must be able to pick up your frame from them (no shipping). They mentioned this is because shipping can be hard on the frames and they do not want any of the coating to be messed up.

Did they give you a quote? There's a powdercoating shop right down the road, I'll shoot them an email... but i'm not sure whether or not they have an oven large enough for a rail frame.

Mine was done before I picked up my frame. $800 because I did 2 coat base & metallic. It would have been $500 for a single coat color. When I looked at prices up here in NH, it would have been about $800-$1000 + the cost of sandblasting it just before coating.

Assuming you had it done before they did end up shipping it and it scratched, what is the repair procedure? I can only imagine here in Maryland they would charge 1k+

It depends. Most good shops would strip the frame and re-coat it. I once had someone try to repair powder coat by stripping the powder off and repainting a small section (it looks horrendous) but they ultimately stripped the whole part and re coated it.

I know for little bits and spots that I have seen on my car a silver sharpie works great. But its less than ideal.

That's why I am going to paint. It much easier to repair if you need to. I know one future winter project after I get it up and running will be change out the rear lights. So it will involve adding and removing brackets and repairing paint. I will be using PPG Paints Omni line of paints. It is affordable and can be mixed in most colors in a single stage 2 part urethane or in basecoat / clearcoat. I will use the single stage on the chassis and the basecoat / clearcoat on the body. I used this paint on the chassis of the dirt track go-kart in my profile picture. We ran it for 3 years weekly on a few local dirt tracks locally. It held up very good for the abuse it took each week. Some small chips and scratches from battle scars and one bad area in the rear where the chain broke and wrapped around the rear rail.
