BCM - What do we really need it for?

Ok so I know it's needed on the Cobalt for alot of the body systems as the name suggests but alot of these of course are no longer applicable in the Goblin. If you have a bypass for the VATS (direct crank push start) what else is it needed for? I'm asking because I'm sort of working with a mad scientist tuner on maybe running an aftermarket ECU on a new engine build I'll be starting soon and the BCM is one of the main things getting in the way of doing this. TIA

The guage cluster and several fuses and relays reside in the BCM that are needed to operate a Goblin, if you are using a donor and the GM ECM. If you are going full stand-alone ECM, the BCM can be removed - using an aftermarket fusebox, guages, etc. - and you can configure the electrical system any way you would like. Hybridizing onto the GM ECM/BCM should be done with caution and only by someone who knows the GM system. Otherwise you may be spending days/weeks/months troubleshooting.

Affordable Fuel injection did a stand alone harness for my LSJ , we used the GM ECU. I did my own dash and wiring for the rest. If you are sticking to the GM dash the BCM must be used unless you are a tech wizard, LOL. ;)

Ok got it. I have my own AEM dash as well so don't care about that either. I think tuner was planning on sort of leaving the original ECU and piggybacking into it for the main signals needed. Will find out more and go from there.

Awesome, do you think the original harness could just be thinned to accomodate the aftermarket ecu? Thats the path I plan to go. What ECU are you using btw?

Most of the lighting is handled by the bcm, as well as the cruise control (I think). Not anything that can't be worked around.

ok that should be easy to wire into the light panel. I would miss the indicator stock use but not a big deal. I dont use cruise control anyway. Thanks!
