V1 Seb's Goblin #454 (2008 SS/TC donor) - Registered

Spent a little time on the front end today.
Marked up the hood to prep for surgery.

Got close to the line with a cut off wheel and cleaned it up the rest of the way with a flap disc.
44451

Pretty happy with the way the hood looks.

I FUBARD the dash though, the gap on the driver side is good.
44454

But the passenger side is not.

I've never worked with fiberglass before, hopefully there's a way to patch/extend it without too much trouble.

Ross
You can extend it fairly easily with fiberglass. It is a mechanical bond between the old and the new fiberglass, so rough up the overlapping area with some rough sandpaper. Do a fiberglass lay up or two, when you get close, it is bondo and primer, just like body work. Be careful with the polyester resin, as the hardener (Methyl Ethyl Ketone Peroxide) likely will cause blindness if you get it in your eye. Wear eye protection, and have fun. Oh, get fresh fiberglass resin, as I have had bad luck buying from Home Depot. It doesn't harden if it is too old, and you get a stickey mess that won't set up. Don't breath the fiberglass dust... it doesn't biodegrade, but it will wash off in a cold shower.

I had a little interference issue on my upper front control arms. @Ross actually noticed it first at Goblinfest 2023 - I believe he mentioned he had the same issue?

Came up with a pretty easy fix.
I drilled and tapped 9/16"-18 roughly 1/2" deep into the tube.
44608

And then turned the head of a 1/2" bolt down and threaded it to 9/16-18.
44609

Added a little locktite and ran it in flush with a pair of 1/2" nuts jammed together on the other end.

Front splitter showed up. I ordered it from Xometry, ended up being almost $100 cheaper than SendCutSend ($140+tax vs $230+tax).

My press isn't big enough to do the gurney flaps. We have a big press at work, but not sure that we have dies that will work - will find out on Tuesday. If all else fails I'll go caveman on it with a wood block and a hammer

Rauq
Could you elaborate on the splitter? Did you just take the 2d drawings that have been posted elsewhere and submit that to Xometry and $140 later (with or without shipping?) you got that in the mail?

I got the dxf file from @Rttoys. The only modification I did to the file was remove the cut out for the intercooler.
Uploaded to Xometry, picked a process and material (sheet cutting and 1/8" 5052 Aluminum). They have several pricing options depending on how fast you want to get it. I wasn't in a hurry so chose the slowest/cheapest option. Ordered on 12/11 and received on 12/29 - not all that slow considering Christmas was in there.
The $140 did include shipping. The total was actually $146.43 after tax.

Still a good price. If I remember right, I sold a handful of them in 1/4” for $120 each? That’s what he charged me and I just sold them for that. Took them to goblin fest a year ago, so no shipping. My guy said it would probably be about $100 to ship and hope it won’t get damaged. That was a year ago prices, so that’s great prices on what you got, even if you went 1/4”.

Your guy is just lazy. :D

Finally decided on hood latches.
Had to do a little more trimming on the hood to get the gap even with the splitter.
44624

I drilled out the 6 rivets that hold the firewall to the floor pan and mounted the rear of the splitter there. I used the 2 radiator mount holes to secure the front.
The 1/8" Aluminum is WAY too flimsy for my liking. I'll be adding some struts, hopefully that will be good enough.

Ya. No 2 hoods are alike. Some need trimming, some don’t.

with 1/8” it will definitely need some sort of support up front. There’s several ways to do it with cables, brackets or rods, though.

Just ordered a set of these rods. I threw a tape measure on it and it looked like ~12" was about right.

So I'm going to have my factory LNF wheels refinished. I know they're far from the ideal size for this car, but I like the way they look.
Early on, I was thinking polished front face with black on the inside faces:

Then I saw some chevy redline wheels on a newer blazer, and thought a spin on that might look good? did a rough layout with some tape

And a quick render:

Leaning toward the black with blue stripes, but still not sure o_O

Between the OEM Mustang wheels that I put on my Goblin and my summer set for my Cayman, I’ve spent lots of hours on the Prismatic Powders website going over options. :D Get sample swatches if you can.

Your windshield and hood area is looking great. Nice idea splitting the hood for the uprights. Looks like it was meant to be that way.
