V1 timing chain job / discovered carnage / see how i fixed it

this might work!

I ordered a couple different options and I will look at everything and decide how to do it. keeping the 6mm bolt would be ideal for sure. I got upgraded 6mm guide bolts from ZZP that wont break off like the OEM crap did.

Yay, I had a good idea! (If it works out...if not that's on you for trusting a stranger on the internet) If you have the material to drill bigger I really prefer the eZ lok kits over the helicoils. Good luck and drill straight!

I just used an 8mm helicoil kit, the hole left behind was just about 8mm and the 8.3mm drill bit cleaned up the hole nicely and it tapped like a dream. soaked the insert in red loctite before installing, this is not going anywhere.

The center of the hole has shifted over a few millimeters, it is what it is.

I will update with a pic of my custom bolt when I get it made.

the engine is still in the car also, I had to remove some engine mount bolts and the rear trans mount bolts and there is enough flex to reach a drill into the hole :)

another funny thing is when the broken parts were spinning around in there for about 50 miles worth of driving the oil squirter melted shut!!!! I am glad I decided to do this, I might be able to save this engine yet.

got the oil pan back on, I will put the new head on this weekend. my fishing trip was successful. the bottom end looked just fine with the oil pan off, at least we can say bless GM for putting a wall between their crap chain guides and the rotating assembly. cylinders have cross hatching. proceeding to continue saving this engine.
