What tires are you running and why?

I've had my Goblin done now for 4 years. I do alot of commuting with the vehicle. I've gone on 2 or 3 four four trips around Arizona. I also do good guys track events. I've put about 6k miles on my car. I'm currently running 275/40/17 Nitto NT555 G2's. These tires still look new, but suffer in the grip department.
So I'm looking for a new set and what to know the ups and downs of what your currently running.
Please let me know

This thread will overload you with ideas. You are probably already familiar with it.

Many were/are running the Toyo 888. We did, while they were grippy, they only lasted one season and were bald and dangerous on any other than dry, hot pavement.

We switched to the Toyo R1R and probably won't change to anything else anytime soon. Great grip, good looks, and last much longer than the 888.

I agree. My 888’s only get about 1-1500 miles out of them, with mostly autocross and track, with a little street thrown in. they stick like glue, but wear quickly. If I were to run mostly street, I would do the R1R’s.

I’m on Continental Extremes 200 tread wear. Not a fan, probably going to try the Bridgestone 200 tw, Toyo R1R or R888R next. The Conti’s do ok (at best) for street but are not good at Autocross. I heard they are more a road race wet tire.
I had R1R's as an autocross tire on my Integra back when I was racing (and the R1R just came out). I can attest that they were great tires on that platform.

I run Falken rt660s. 15x10 with the biggest 246 I’ve ever seen so it fits. I Alsace every once in a while and cruise a lot. They definitely like heat when racing but they seem to last l. I’ve put almost 3k miles on my car and they still run fine. They’re also manageable in the rain.

Nitto NTO1's, haven't had any other to compare them to but reviews I read prior to the purchase said they mimiced the R88R's with better wear and not as much fall off as they aged.

I'm looking into the MT ET street SS in a 275/45/17, if I can figure out if a 17x9 +25 will work for the rear. Looked into r888r but got the same reviews on treadwear only lasting about 1 season.

For what it's worth, I'm running a 17x9.5/+20 in the rear, with Conti ExtremeContact Sport 02 275/40 tires. I have maybe 1", at most, between the wheel and BC strut. Running 17x8/+38 in the front, with Conti 245/45 tires.

I specifically didn't want a square setup, and I think with my offsets and tire widths, the rears are pretty close aligned with fronts (square setup will have your front stick out wider than the rear). This setup is also for street, maybe early attempts at autox if I go that route. I do plan to run a different setup for drag racing though, and will likely do a 15 with skinny fronts and a minimum 275 rear (assuming I have good luck getting/keeping heat in my current 275's during spirited driving).

So not a lot of flex room for street driving. I might look into a 15" 0 offset for street tires. An inch or less is worrisome.

Nah, even with an inch it should be fine. However, I have cam bolts for the strut/knuckle connection, and they haven't been properly clocked yet. Further, I've not had my alignment done beyond eyeballing it, so in the end I expect to gain another little bit. Even if it does become a problem, I'll throw on some half inch spacers.

Ya when you are all said and done might give you a little extra, that would be legit. Hope it all pans out.

No rubbing with 1 1/4” clearance at autocross and track. I could run a camera to see how close they get, but it’s probably plenty fine.
