Pulling the Oil Pan

Working on my 2.4 Ecotec NA to Turbo upgrade. Looks like it will be a nightmare pulling the Oil Pan to install the Turbo Oil Drain line. In the car I believe they just remove the motor mount & jack up the engine to give you the clearance under the Sub Frame. In the Goblin looks like the only way is to drop the Sub Frame to get the clearance you need.

Any suggestions or short cuts are appreciated. TIA

Could NOT drop the pan without unbolting everything attached to the Sub-Frame (except the Quick Steer Ball joint "L" arm). Had to drop the sub-frame about 1" at the four corners. Also could not work the oil pan out with the dip stick attached and had to cut it off with a very small pipe cutter. Easy to replace later. While the pan is off I will have it painted.

NOTE: If you go with a NA engine & anticipate ever adding a turbo I suggest drilling and tapping for the oil return line before putting the engine in the frame. Will save a ton of work later !!!

Is there a pre determined spot for the oil return that is easy to locate. I am far from home and confess I’ve never looked at the pan very closely. Drilling tapping and plugging before installing is an excellent idea. And with it plugged, if it never gets used, no prob. Thanks in Advance!

There is, on the back of the engine block. That is the OEM turbo drain location for the factory turbocharged engines.

Great pic "appropriation"! thanks! Back home now but finding land to buy then building is eating my days so far with a little puttering around my storage. Then we have to improve the land, housing and garage stuff. UGGH my life keeps getting in the way of my life.
