Took a risk on an 07 supercharged donor.... help me get it running?

Silly question but is there coolant in the motor? I have rebuilt a few cars that had broken radiators I didn't notice and didn't realize they were out of coolant until they started to overheat. Point being, when there was no coolant in the system the motor shook like hell, I assume the coolant...

    V1 SinisterSF's Turbo Build

I put the valve cover back on, buttoned it all up and redid my leak down test on each cylinder again just to confirm. Nothing coming out of the dipstick tube. Bent valves most likely, but since I can buy a new head with everything installed I'll just do that rather than getting this head fixed...

Haha, actually I flip auction cars to make extra money. That's how I afford my toys.

    V1 SinisterSF's Turbo Build

I didn't hear anything from the oil filler, But I did hear it coming from the coolant hose fitting, not sure what that means. Either way I bought a LHU motor that only has 5k on it. I'm also buying another 2009 Cobalt SS from IAAI up in Indianapolis in a few days. I plan on taking the LNF out of...

    V1 SinisterSF's Turbo Build

Has anyone used the LHU as a replacement for their LNF? Looks to be the same as a LDK except you can use E85. I found a Regal with one of these motors, thinking about just swapping rather than trying to fix this tired old LNF. Does anything need to be done to the LHU to work in the Cobalt?

I did the leak down test. I undid the cams to take pressure off the valves. Air is coming out everywhere! What do you guys think? Blown head gasket, bad valve seats, and spent lifters?

Hahaha! I have no idea what I'm looking at there, is that a space ship? You guys must be building some serious racers. I just want a little play thing to rip around town and take to the occasional track event day.

    V1 SinisterSF's Turbo Build

I took the intake off this morning, tons of buildup on the valves, but I don't think it would prevent them from closing. Then I removed the valve cover (that oil return line on the turbo is a real *****!). Timing chain has tension and I see no obvious valve train damage. Can I do any further...

What would the motor be doing if the timing chain was broke? Just spit balling possible problems.

    V1 SinisterSF's Turbo Build

Sooooooooo. I pull the plugs and immediately I know there's nothing wrong with the fuel. The plugs are black, wet, and smell like gas. Ut-oh.... So I proceed to compression test, 1=65 and doesn't hold it, 2,3,4 completely dead. So I think I know why it won't run now! The oil is unmixed so I...

    V1 SinisterSF's Turbo Build

Here's a video of what's going on. For the first 3 crank cycles I didn't touch the pedal, all of the rest I depressed the pedal about an inch.

    V1 SinisterSF's Turbo Build

I just tested the low pressure pump and it's good. I checked the hpfp plug and did a volt check on the wires. They seem ok. I did an ohms test on the pump itself and there's nothing when I touch the two terminals, I thought there should be a reaction? Anyways, I'm gonna try squirting some...

No its got spark, I've got it to fire, it just bogs and dies. Most likely the high pressure pump. But I'm testing it all now to narrow it down.

I've got his contact info, it's in all the crap I cleaned out of the car. Must be nice to be a spoiled rich kid that can trash **** then just get something to replace it whenever he likes.

    V1 SinisterSF's Turbo Build

So I scored what could be an amazing deal today. I picked up a non-running, clean titled 09 SS with 90k on it for $2500. Cheaper than I've seen even the hardest hit ones go in auction for. The bad, it was a spoiled kid who owned it and when it died he pretty much gave it to the guy I bought it...

    V1 Aftermarket Turbo

I meant a mileage rebuild. Eventually the motor is going to require a refreshing, A full rebuild often costs more than 2k, I'm just saying the crate engine is my answer for that.

    V1 Aftermarket Turbo

Here's the euro motor that is a direct bolt in replacement for the LNF in case you guys wanna read up on the specs. It'd be cheaper than a short block rebuild so it's certainly the way to go. http://zzperformance.com/ecotec/engine/ldk-long-block.html

    V1 Aftermarket Turbo

The 1900 crate motor is the euro motor, better journals and a few other advantages over the US engine. Not near their super duper engine at all but a great option to making any repairs on a stock motor.
