Good Evening,
Well I could not help myself. Was able to pick up a second 2008 Cobalt (same year as my original donor) on Craigslist for a price I could not refuse. High miles with broken timing chain engine is probably good for a core only. The good it has a complete wiring harness that has not been touched. It is also a manual windows and door locks car with the single tail lights (only has the 3rd brake light in the trunk).

The awesome thing about stripping a second donor you see things a lot clearer. My first donor I took to a friends shop but only had the weekend to completely strip it down. Fun but was just trying to get it done. This weekend was able to take my time and strip out the entire wiring harness (and label every connector with notes) stupid things like the ground for the fuel pump is on the passengers side rear deck lid next to the speaker ???

I am most likely going to drop the engine sub frame with the engine, trans and suspension. Keep for a future car for my son. Pull all the parts for a second kit car. If anyone needs parts for their cars that have been damaged due to an accident send me a message. Extras I do have control arms, bearings, shifter ( broken knob), some additional harnesses. Things that I didn't use on my original build.

Complete tear down of interior and engine compartment. Was able to get the entire harness out all labeled and nothing cut. Engine (was supposed to have a broken timing chain but that is not the case chain still intact maybe a spun gear)??? But just need to drop front suspension out and get the fuel pump out of tank and I can ship the hull out.
As for the trailer it is a Cam Industries 6'x12' with a 6000# axle and auto tilt.

Good Afternoon,
Looking for some information. Just finished stripping and scraping the body of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt. That car had 140,000 miles on it. But luckily, it also had a resent front end job (brakes -calipers,rotors and new front bearings). The bad is that the engine had spun the timing chain.
So I ended up saving all the parts required for the Goblin kit. (Minus -rear bearings, rear brake lines and the fuel pump). With that all said, I just got a call from a friend (actually from where my 1st donor came from) asking if I was interested in a 2.2 Ecotec and automatic transmission from a 2009 with only 8,000 original miles.
So the big question, is what is the differences between the 2008 and 2009 2.2 Ecotec engines. Are they interchangeable?

Needless to say that is snow. The biggest reason that I didn't pull the rear bearings and hoses. Plus I needed the wheels to get it up on the trailer. Fuel pump was the emissions style thus unusable for the Goblin.

I think you'll have ECU compatibility problems.

2008 to 2009 was one of the bigger changes, going from the L61 engine to the LAP engine. Among other things they went from 16bit to 32bit computer and added variable valve timing.

Do you mind if I ask what hes asking for the engine and transmission? I've started building up my store of parts for the turbo conversion. But I'm having doubts on using my current 2010 2.2 because of high original miles

So what is the fix? I would need to run the 2009 engine wiring harness? Can I still connect that to the 2008 body and dash harnesses.

I'm not sure on that one. I think it's more software than hardware. I'm not going back to my car for another week, but at that time I can take pictures of all the main plugs and we can compare if ya don't get an answer before then

Can I swap a rebuilt L61 head on top of the LAP motor and run it as a stock L61 Ecotec? (I have all the extra parts from the L61 that spun the timing belt). That way it would get rid of the VVT and I wouldn't have to rework the 2008 wiring harnesses or computers. Worth the couple dollars for a new head...
