V1 Carl's Track Goblin - 05 SS SC donor, Chassis # 39

Waterdriver
Looks like the finishing tack welds on the chassis are occurring!

Now to the rotisserie for welding and inspection!

Sept. 5th, Stage 1 has arrived! Time to get it home and unpack.

The unpacking begins. Takes a little doing to get the chassis unloaded and the crate disassembled to reuse the lumber.

She's finally out and on the garage. A little tight but we'll make it work.

Believe it or not but the race kart still fits in the garage too for now. Anyone interested in a front running LO206 race kart, competitive and ready to race? Needing the space.
No better place to hone those driving skills for the Goblin.

Not to much to report at this time.
We did get a new addition to the family. Her she is sleeping next to the gate I was building.

As for the Goblin, Went over all the edges of all the chassis brackets with a high speed grinder, removing the sharp edges and flashing left be the laser cutter. Thought it might save me from myself, cutting fingers and whatever else during the assembly process.

Started on the wiring, stripping off the tape and covers.

Possibly dropping off the chassis to powder coat this next coming week.

Waterdriver
Yesterday, worked on removing flashing from sheet metal edges and mounting holes.

Loaded up the chassis, control arms and sheet metal to bring to powder coating. Of course it rains the day I plan on bringing it in. Don't know why I'm surprised, it is Washington after all.
Should be picking back up in a few weeks.

Waterdriver
Been working on thinning the dash and body harnesses to prep for the chassis coming back from powder coating.

I have a connector that somehow escaped being tagged during removal. Anybody know what this connector and wiring for? '05 SS/SC.

Similar color wires but different.
I traced the large purple wire back to the white rectangular wire block, that goes to the fuse box. Looks like that wire goes to the rear defogger relay.
Black goes to ground.
I think blue/white, green and grey went to the red BCM plug. (Already snipped those thinking it was a different connector in the video)

I'm thinking its safe to remove that plug and wiring.

If you go on the Chilton online manual, there is a guide there that has a diagram and description of every single connector on all of the wiring harnesses.

That looks like your body harness to headliner harness connector. All the wires match up to mine except for the purple wire. The '09's are probably a bit different.

That's the one! Thank you SliderR1 for the confirmation.

Brian74, Where in the online Chilton manual did you find the connector listings? I had looked before posting but did not see it. It would be quite useful.

You're right, its difficult. If you go into the repair section, in the search box and type in "master electrical component list". That will give you a table with all of the connector end views.

So I got to Build Video 12 for the wiring harness and had to pack it back in a box. Pretty much fills the whole garage.

The chassis and sheet metal is done! Went and picked it up today. Forever PowderCoating in Olympia WA did a great job! Now to shuffle the garage around again.

I was going to do white chassis and black components, but decided to go silver instead.

I will have to most likely finish the wiring in the car due to garage space constraints.

I think my daughter is as excited as I am having the chassis back! (Just got back from swimming) She has been helping with the wiring and liking it!

Able to get a hand to roll the frame on it's back and installed the bulkhead and belly pan sheet metal.

Then just got done pulling the coolant lines. That was fun, not. Got impatient and didn't use my gloves. Even with wrapping the rope around a socket extension, still got a rope burn. But it's done.
IMG_1801.JPG

I didn't have to use all that much Tire Wet for pulling the lines. Maybe 1/3 of a spray bottle for both.
I rotated the frame upside down and propped the front up with a saw horse. This way keeping the chassis tube level that the coolant lines were to be pulled through. Keeping it from draining out.
Used a portion of an old washcloth tied to the middle of the trimmer line. Soaked it with Tire Wet, sprayed inside the chassis tube and pulled the rag through. Repeated this several times ensuring the tube was fully coated.

The first foot was the hardest part and then it started to pull a little easier.

Had some help getting the frame rolled back over and continued with wrapping video 16.

My daughter installed the steering rack, I torqued it.
Finally, parts are going on the frame!
