Crashed goblin - text out of the blue

Lonny
When we heard Zack had passed away Brenda sent flowers and a card. We had no idea that it was an accident in a Goblin.

This is uncomfortable news to learn. Heavy heart!

I know without having all of the details there is a is possibility that the accident was unavoidable. It could have been caused by an animal in the road, mechanical problem or any number of things.

That being said, you folks please be extra careful.

Very sad. It could have been anything. Cooler November weather, early morning dew, wildlife, drowsy, distracted, mechanical, just bad luck. We may never know. Goblin on up in the sky’s.

I'm not about pointing the finger of blame, but changing the future while we have the opportunity. Noted that the shoulder harness bar is in tact and the passenger seat shoulder harness are present but driver's position absent. Though we don't know if they were cut away by responders. 50 years of Auto seat belts,(Nylon) webbing does not generally fail but stretches quite a bit(my est. X10) to a final failure point. My point is those straps use "buckles" that the webbing threads through, webbing goes around the bar and back through the buckles. I believe if the webbing is threaded through the buckles incorrectly it looks "ok" BUT the webbing can pull out. Double Check that yours are threaded into their buckles correctly please! I feel sure your belt manufacturer will gladly provide exact/correct instructions!(IF they won't help, throw that 5#it away! I wouldn't trust them!) A minute checking could make a big difference. I am fairly sure those adjuster buckles must also be made of steel and contiguous(not slotted for easy installation! as used on child car seats whose adjuster buckle component is doing a very different secondary duty cycle.), I do not believe plastic is an approved materiel for that component. All very tragic, and there is not much left to us but to Honor his memory and try to be as safe as possible!

I have no idea what may have caused this crash and the said loss of a husband, a father of two, and a member of our community but feel obligated to post some thing that happened to me with Goblin 1.0.

My wife and I were making a right hand turn into a shopping center, maybe going 5 mph when the steering shaft slid off the top spline and hit my leg. I lost complete ability to steer my Goblin as I quickly put my foot into the brake. I was able to hop out and push the Goblin out of the way and buy some simple tool kit at grocery store so we could limp home.

I don’t even want to think what would have happened if I was going 50-60 mph?

Have no idea how it slide off, I thought the bolt went thru a keyed curve like the bottom end. So please make sure everyone makes sure yours is torqued down with no way of sliding off.

This is the location that I’m describing, note that I have not secured it yet, want to wait until the tires and steering wheel are on incase I need change how goes on.

Looking at crash photos I can see that his shaft is intact and connected.
