V1 Dan's #495 build (2006 SS/SC)

TheAnesthetist
In step 1 of wiring video #10, Lonny says to connect the data wires from the dash to the data wires from the main harness. He says tan to tan and tan/blk to tan/blk. I see those wire colors on the dash side (which was partially thinned from the main dash connector) but the only data wire I have coming from the main harness is a twisted tan/brown set. Is this just a color variation of my harness vs the one from the video?

The one's you have labeled dash side are the main harness pair. If memory is correct, the dash harness is separate and should have a matching pair as well. The dash harness will have the ignition switch and turn signal switch wires in it.

Solved it. Went back and untaped everything at the fuse box. Turns out I used the tan/brown to extend the tan+tan/black data wires. I did that weeks ago and forgot. This wiring is really kicking my butt . Should've paid the money to have DF do it.

It took me about a week to know out the wiring. The only issue I had was the green low speed data wires. If you haven't done those yet, the 06 SS/SC is slightly different. There is one green wire from the OBD-II port that doesn't get cut and added to the rest BUT there is one that does. I'd have to look it up again.

TheAnesthetist
I cut out that low speed wire junction box as per the video. I found your post about the wire that doesn't get cut. Now I just have to figure out if I cut that one already.

TheAnesthetist
In the diagram, I have the green wire at pin 2 labeled as OBD. The other end was cut from the dash harness and I have the corresponding green wire that gets extended from the main harness.

The green wire at pin 1 was cut and knotted. I'm guessing that's the one from the junction box?

Edited: green wire was just labeled obd, NOT obd power

STAY POSITIVE!! I’m overwhelmed as well but think I’m figuring it out. We will see if the car starts later in life o_O

I think I've got this thing nearly firgured out. Thank you all for guiding me through this. I've somehow ended up with one wire that has no connection and I can't recall it being mentioned in the video. It is a grey wire that terminates in the gauge cluster connector. Anyone know what this should connect to?

Is it the one that goes to cruise control?? Are you sure it came from that connector? There is a gray one that goes to the cruise control but the diagram you attached looks like it has to do with the dash lighting.

TheAnesthetist
I found the one for cruise control using the wiring diagrams @gstorey linked to. Verified it using a test light.

My rogue wire does seem to be gauge backlighting. My guess it it powers a relay inside the cluster to turn on the gauge lights, otherwise I'd just tie it into the brown wires for the sidemarker lights.

Doesn't look like there is relay within the cluster for the lights.

But you will likely be over fused for the wiring size. Interior lights are probably coming from the BCM, but I don't know that for sure. Need to track down the "Interior Lights System" diagram or trace down the other end of circuit 8 on a pin out. If I'm understanding what this interpretation of an OEM diagram is saying.

I may try to tap into the grey wire at B12 from this BCM connector to the grey wire from the instrument cluster. I'll do it after I install the harness into the goblin. My plan is to leave the whole thing unwrapped until I can verify all systems work.

Edit: I spliced the grey wire from the gauge cluster connector into the grey lamp wire from the boost gauge.

GM color habits are that small gray wires in the dash harness are dimmable dash/ instrument backlighting. I believe that wire is set aside for boost gauge backlight. As you also expect/ deduced.

The trip to pick up my kit has been an adventure so far. We booked a flight from Atlanta to Dallas, reserved a fullsize truck, and planned to drive it home the same day. We figured holiday travelers would be an issue so we got to the airport earlier than we normally would. Didn't matter. Took forever to get through security and we missed our flight by 3 minutes. The gate agent said she had literally just locked the door. We were able to get me on a flight later in the afternoon and my wife had to catch an evening flight. I'm writing this post from the cell phone lot in Dallas. But I got my kit! Adam took time out of his Saturday afternoon to meet me at the shop. I got a great tour, saw some goblins, and picked his brain about some of the assembly questions that I've come up with.

495 is headed home!

ATL says be in security line 2 hrs before flight. By the time you get home you’ll wonder if flying saved You any time at all!?

Sent a pile of stuff off to powder coat this week. I'm stealing Sluggonaut's Illusion Purple for the frame, springs, and a arms. To be fair, my wife chose the color without seeing his build. The kids had a good time making vroom vroom noises before we loaded it all back up in the truck. Started cleaning up and painting donor parts. Those aluminum control arms suck to clean.

Cute Kids! Wait until they actually ride in it! Screaming and giggling will be the soundtrack. We are in Ft. Worth visiting Grandsons and Josh09's Goblin. I finally got to ride in a Goblin! As cool as imagined. I can't imagine the levels of driving that getting his Goblin registered will unleash, he was being circumspect because no tag yet. Josh said the level of grip drives him toward confidence in handling like no other car he has ever driven. Having owned a Toyota MR2 I believe this is inherent in mid engine cars. Today is my only free day and I was going to visit DF in Red Oak but I couldn't get anyone on the phone. Tough to drive 1.5 hours on a maybe. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Gotta make vroom vroom noises. I think it’s in the instructional videos. :D
