Is there a way to modify the fuel range on the instrument cluster with an HP Tuner?

It's full and says 384 miles until empty, which I know is nowhere near correct, considering the tank is nowhere near it's OEM size, that it thinks it is anymore...

I'm looking at a few hptuners files, and some OSs appear to have these tables defined, and others don't.

Can you post your file? If it's not defined in yours, I can *probably* get it added and modify it for you if needed.

I found all these tables in a E67 / 2007 / 2.4 model bin file, so it should translate over more or less directly to yours.

Big thing will just be scaling the Sender % to actual fuel in tank.

Can you log Sender % in VCM scanner? A good way to go about it may be to run it empty. add a gallon at a time, or whatever increments you can measure easily. And basically just build out that table. You can also edit the axis values which makes it a bit easier/no interpolation required.

Logically this should fix the issue, but won't know till we try, there could be other funky stuff that the cluster is doing. And if fuel volume remaining is now reading accurately...the distance to empty etc should all just work.

Send over your current HPT file if you have it, and I can make a few small edits just to make sure I can find the tables and if these changes will actually do anything. PM or email over if you prefer or can't post here.

And as further warning, if you let the tank get much below 1/2 tank and pitch it hard into a sweeping turn, you may get some missing due to full slosh. I pretty much just keep mine above 1/2 tank.

Getting the fuel float bent just right makes a big difference.
This bend has worked well for me, showing both full and empty. It use to say empty when it still had 3 gallons.

Range to empty and an accurate gas gauge are related but the accurate gauge is accomplished by what Ross posted.

Never ran it, by hydramat might help some with it too, if it's compatible and will fit onto the fuel pump basket.

The Holley hydramat has been discussed on here but I don't know if anyone ever used it. I think you would typically have to modify the pump basket to make it work.

It's not cheap. I just keep the tank topped off.

Usually through user defined parameters if using hpt.

Yeah, user defined parameters. Lets you create your own definitions (xdf format) and basically edit anything in the calibration block(s) that aren't defined by HPT. Kind of a workaround to asking support to add stuff, if you know how to find tables etc. Unfortunately it's a paid feature and linked to my MPVI, so only I or other UDP enabled devices can bring up this function to make the edits.

So I could edit the file for you and send it back and the changes would be saved, but not something you can fiddle with on your own (without buying UDP).

But I went ahead and defined the applicable tables in your OS (12610011). If you want some edits or explore further, let me know.

Edit: If I get a few of these made, I could send them over to HPT support as well... they would probably? add them in, especially if all the work has been done for them...

You won't be able to see the table since it doesn't have a regular HPT definition.

It looks like I've got a 10 gallon tank, could you use the same the ratio that you have for the sender % and scale it down to the 10 gal capacity instead of the 13.5 capacity that I see in the screenshots?

Since I don't have any real data to go on, I'm not sure the best way to scale the whole table, so here's a couple files to test out.

If you're able to log with vcm scanner sender % or even "fuel remaining" or something like that, in reference to some truth data in regards to how much fuel is in the tank (or close), should be able to get it real close. But maybe one of these will be good enough.

sorry, haven’t had a chance to test it yet. It’s been a crazy few weeks of work travel and now unfortunately the rain and cold have come to Seattle. Hoping I get a weekend to try it out, but I doubt it’ll be anytime soon.
