V1 Insuring that we are not bidding against each other

When we buy a wrecked donor we are primary competing against rebuilders and salvage yards. A rebuilder is looking for a car that has low damage, low miles, and low repair cost with a high resale value. A Cobalt is NOT normally that car – failing on the high resale. Salvage yards are looking for cars that have high saleable content. As repaired Cobalt’s do not have much value, the demand for salvage parts is low lowering the saleable content of a salvaged vehicle. What we that are looking for a good donor should do is let each other know of the car we are bidding on so we don't run up the price unnecessarily. There are a lot of fish (Cobalt's) in the ocean and we don't need to kill each other.

This is a Great Point!

Two of the cars people have bought for donors were ones I was bidding on. So it makes sense to see if we can each get one without running the price up on them.

I'm in Colorado and there is a Turbo SS car here, but it is wasted in the front. Not sure anything I would need is usable. I am going to go down and take a look and see if anything is salvageable.

Definitely a great idea...how do you keep this highlighted for future builders? Maybe something on the webpage pointing potential builders where to look and who else may be bidding..?

Several months ago I started developing a donor search page for our site that skims Copart for all of the Cobalts they are selling. When I get back to building that page I will definitely include a "dibs" feature where you can mark a car that you plan to bid on.

I had a SS turbo car saved in my favorites, but forgot to put in a bid. Sold for $1200......

That is very sad news. What service are you using that shows what the car went for? I haven't been able to see previous sell info on Copart.

It wasn't a copart car. It bugs me that copart doesn't let you see the final sales prices. You have to watch the auction live and record it to see it.
