V1 Josh's City Goblin - 10 XFE Donor

jirwin
Yesterday we got rained out almost immediately. Everyone got to the track and it looked like we were going to run one and done. The track was 10 minutes from being glued. Then it rained again so they called it. We didn't get stuck in too much rain, but we did drive through some. The waterproofing I did worked! The stupid little hand crank wiper did too haha

Figured things out today! I got the 2 step working and that really helped my launch. I set it to 4000RPM and i built between 0.5 to 1psi boost on the line. I went 7.4@99. Still not as fast as I want, but we're getting somewhere. Tomorrow after the stop home I'm Bay City I'm going to find a way to load the slicks on the roof rack. The head of tech ordered me to go get them . Hopefully that plus more RPM on the leave could get me my 6 lol.

OK, correction. The wot box did not work. It was still 3000. I ordered an MSD alternative because I'm done with that windows BS.

Anyway day 4 was a drive day down from da yoop. Went mostly smooth except I missed one E85 stop in Alpena. We got some E85 from another race who had to drop out thankfully. Stayed the night at home in Bay City.

The next morning we went to Ubly, but with slicks! I got it up on two step and launched. 7.5@96. It bogged a bit.

Next day we drove back to Detroit and checked out Woodward a bit, but mostly just had a relaxing day.

Final day at Milan I got the wotbox to work and we got er wicked up. We even were able to line up with @TravMac for the first time!

Broken axle lol. ****. Well, we broke the beams so that counts! We completed Michigan Miles! I'm a bit bummed we didn't get to see it run at full tilt, but I'm happier that I didn't get the wotbox to work up north where I didn't have a trailer!

DSS quoted me at $1800 for axles . Probably more economical for the time being to get a slipper setup for now. Even spreading that load over a half second would probably limit the drivetrain shock enough to get me going. The idea is just to stay in boost as much as possible instead of letting it bog

Still so glad to see you run all week and complete the event. Seeing your car move faster every day makes me want more power for sure. Hopefully you get it up and running for an autocross with us up there too!

Heck yeah man! I'll try and make one of the remaining events this year

I'm 100% convinced this car is better no-prep now. I've always ran faster at Thunder on the Strip in Gladein, and this year was no exception. Ran faster than I did every day at Sick Michigan Miles, and I was just using my street tires!

I came to that conclusion on my old high school/college car (79 Camaro). The first time I ran at the drag strip (old Houston raceway park), I was on regular normal size wheels and sears nothing special tires. i spun off the line and all, but ran mid 14’s. Fast forward and my buddy let me borrow his “cheater slicks”. No spin, just hook and go. I ran slower by a couple of tenths. I figure it was the wheel spin that made the ranging rev faster instead having to power its way through. At least that’s my theory. :D

my next car was a LT1 based trans am. After mods I ran low 13’s, then switched to cheater slicks and ran a 13 flat. So just the opposite :D

lol. No no no. The r888r are poser tires, not cheater tires. :D

they were some sort of BFG street drag that had just came out in the late 90s. Just enough tread to be considered dot legal, but were toast in about 500 miles. They hooked up very well.

Finally decided to disassemble the broken CV axle. It snapped clean right before the splined part that goes into the plunging part of the axle. Transmission side.

It looks like the shaft tapers down at that point so I'm not sure if its meant to break there or not. These are supposedly the "Stage 1" ZZP axles. Upon further research I think these are just old Grand Am axles or similar. They are a little thicker, but still. I'm surprised it broke there, but I guess its the skinniest point of the whole axle
