North carolina indemnity bond

Chris_WNC
I think I’m going to have to get one. I have a title for my donor but the inspectors (one is in training) couldn’t find any markings on the Ecotec or transaxle remotely similar to the vin. It sounded like two appraisals and a bond would be required.

I think I had found that GM hasn't VIN marked the engine or transmission in a long time, or at least doesn't do it for Ecotecs. There's a serial number on the engine block that I think is near the front of the oil filter housing but it doesn't match the VIN. I think the serial number on the transmission is just the one on the top plate. However, if the inspector says a bond is required, then there's not much push back you can give. When they inspected mine, my donor shell was sitting in the other half of the garage beside my Goblin. I did use my phone to picture the serial codes that he then wrote down. I think the big issue for him was if he had a code to enter in those fields of the form.

It's a little confusing trying to figure out whether GM puts the VIN number on or not. I found several references that there should be a partial match, maybe the last 6 digits of the number on the engine.

The database said vertical etched on driver side toward front of engine. We didn’t find a thing..
Good news is the the outgoing inspector for the area is a friend of a friend and he said not to worry. He wants me to let him know when I get the state issued VIN and he walk me through how to fill out the other forms. And introduce me to a couple of dealers that do appraisals.

I might be on the road before June.:)
