Where are you building?

Does everyone use a garage to build? Anyone do their build outside? How much garage space is needed?

I ask because my two car garage is about full. If I want to build in there, I have a space about 8'x16', is that enough? If not it's the backyard patio space, 14'x20'.
What are your guys thoughts?

Ark :D
I built in my garage. I had to give up my side of the garage and keep my daily driver outside. 8' x 16' will be cramped but doable.

It really depends on a number of factors that we don't know. Like, where you're located (I'm in the northeast, tough to work in a non-heated garage let alone outdoors) and the opinions of those around you (my wife hated me for about a month when I first started tearing apart donor #1).

I'm in South Florida(See pic). Heat and rain are the biggest factors for building over the summer. Mosquitos if I try to build at night outside.

One thing I’m not sure if you’ve thought of is the salt air. It’ll cause surface rust in the chassis and any unpainted parts within a few days of sitting outside.

like you said, the heat will get you during the day and the mosquitos at night. Best to get one of those Pods and put everything from the garage in there (cars in the driveway if it’s just that in there) so you have the entire garage to work. I did the strip down in the 2 car garage side of my garage without issue. Storing all the parts in the single car garage space while I used the 2 car side to work the wire harness. I can see only have 2 spots as cramped during that phase.

I stripped my donor in the driveway, and did my build in the garage. I'll have to measure the space when I get home from work, but it was tight. I was barely able to get the rear wheels on at one point.

I live on the other coast, SWFL and I'm sure my wife will be thrilled but I plan on setting up the wiring table on top of our dinning room table. With the Goblin being built in a two car garage that is shared with a 68 Camaro. I suspect it will be a little cramped but I'll make do with what I have.

One of the perks of the track frame is that you can throw a sheet of plywood or OSB on top of the halo and have a table to rework the harness without angering the permanent roommate

I’m doing mine in Michigan in a carport it’s 10X20. Turbo heater has been my friend. Just got me kit today

Sweet. That's what I was trying to picture, how much space I would have to move around the frame.

Stuff gets surface rust, but not to bad.
I'm building mine in a 12x24 portable building and I would say that is about as small as you would want to do it in.

The thought has crossed my mind to buy a 12x30 shed to replace my current shed. half garage and half storage. I do need a place to store it when it's built too.
