I never even thought of the rock deflector until I saw your post even though my dad always used one when he pulled his boat.
I won't have or need a front bumper and I don't plan on running a windshield. A majority of trips will be in the local area so probably a similar 1-2 hours. I might attempt the trip from Texas to South Dakota, but that might be a little long. Maybe not though. People flat tow vehicles behind RVs cross country all the time.
