12v accessory plug. I am relocating it to the top section to avoid it getting in the way of leg room.

In this area, where the panel slants downward. Still need to fabricate that piece.

After looking at this, I am thinking about cutting out this aft section with the 1/2” radius bends, and adding a larger radius bend that will match the offset of the shift boot. I think it will lend to the appearance much better.

Ahh OK... I thought you were talking about the hole in the CAD drawing.. The hole you’re taking about is a 1” recessed tray that I’m still debating on whether to add or not. At best it could hold some change or a ballpoint pen; possibly a cellphone if its an iPhone 7 or smaller.

Got the console tray welded in. Most all the rest of the pieces are cut & fitted. Will finish up top section welds tomorrow.

Nice TIG welding. That tray looks like it is so precisely made that if you put your phone in it, you can't get it out.

Its MIG. Phone wont fit flat inside. The tray is really more of a gimmick than it is for function so I could get a little practice on technique.

I didn’t like the 1/2 radius of the upper shifter surround; too squarish looking. I CAD drafted up a new piece with an uneven radius and welded it in. Really improved the look. All I have left is to trim out and weld the rest of the top section.

I am super jealous of you guys that can do CAD, metal fab, and 3D printing. I'll eventually get into 3D printing but it's not in the budget atm.

I absolutely love working with sheet metal. Once I sell the boat, I will be turning that garage bay into a sheet metal shop with every tool I will need.

Gotta love finding a reason to learn something new. I bought my welding machine when I needed to start cutting up my old go kart to change it over from a swing arm to a triangulated 3 link, ever since then, just getting better and better

I hit retirement in around 7 years from my military job. I could probably stay there as long as I wanted. My goal, when I leave that job, is to be able to spend every day inside my garage fabricating. There’s simply nothing I enjoy more.

I couldn’t stay in, I got out when Obama ruined the military. I have always been into designing stuff since the 1st grade, I never liked wood, but found my calling with metal. I have a side business now fabricating skid plates, it takes a long time to perfect each part. I was drawing to drafting and CAD in high school, but found cardboard design with solid mock up to test parts best.
