V1 Brian's City Goblin-06/Crate MotorTC #61

Brian74
I spent all day on the dash. I cut the mounting point out for the Strada and welded in some reinforcement brackets. I also welded in mounts for the RFD ignition module and remote button interface. Its a tight fit flush-mounted. I may need to shave down the steering mount bracket a bit for clearance.

I’m at the point now where I need to start fabricating the mounting brackets for the dash. I may weld in the cowling pins first to get a proper fit of the cowling just to ensure it all fits right.

Fabricated up some mounts for the hood cowling pins today and got the cowling positioned. I’m having some clearance issues with the AIM and the aft steering column bracket. I will either have to shave the edge of the bracket, shorten it or build an extension bracket. Trying to avoid the latter as I want to keep the mounting simple since I plan to vinyl wrap the dash later.

I also plan to add a dzus or similar to the sides of the cowling for more stability.

I did a quick read through your thread but couldn't find it, are you planning on hinging your hood/cow? l've wondered if it was feasible, and when I see your hood pins, it looks like it would be. I haven't put on my radiator support yet to see how it would hinge up front.

Your dash is aaawesome. I'll bet there's a bunch of guys on here that would love to pull a mold from that thing. #carbonfiberdash. Very clean.

Thanks. No plan to do hinges. May add more supports and fasteners though.

I went to my local car audio shop today (been going there since I was a teenager.) The owner hooked me up nicely with a multimedia receiver, 4 channel amp, rear view camera, and a 10” kicker powered subwoofer. Steering wheel, wheel mount, and button plate also showed up. Seats should be here tomorrow. Went and talked to another friend who races dirt track and got a few more ideas on mounting my cowling and side panels.

A 10" sub in a Goblin! That will be a first. Just curious, where are you thinking of putting it? Good thing you bought amplifiers, as the exhaust notes will be competing with your music.

Its a compact powered sub. It will fit right under the driver seat.

Welded a 1” lip around the dash and made my mount brackets. Cut the bottom out of the steering opening to facilitate easy installation and removal. My Corbeau seats also arrived.

Got a few things mocked up. I will need to do a bit of trimming here and there to get everything to fit perfectly.

Its certainly fun climbing in and out, lol... But once seated it fits like a glove.

Is it just me, or does the steering wheel seem to be slightly offset to the right?

While waiting on a few parts, I decided to get started fabricating my modular 3rd brake light / dome light / rear view mirror camera. Went through 3 rivisions before I finally settled on a design. Main bracket is 1/8” steel with 18 guage bolt ons. Can be taken apart for maintenance.

Lots done this past week. I refabricated the brake light main housing in 1/8” steel and added some cosmetic touches. I also build the head unit brackets for the dash and got my first mock up with everything installed.
