V1 Brian's City Goblin-06/Crate MotorTC #61

My best friend grew up in metal fab. he knows how to build xy tables. We ultimately want to build a laser table and farm out some parts as a side gig.

I got all of the aluminum cut today for the airbox. Still working on getting the radiuses right on some of the bends in order to get everything to match up. Not gonna weld until I figure out what air filter I plan to run. Also still need to figure out a mounting configuration and an access point to install the air filter.

I think its time to go buy a hydraulic press. I can build bending jigs and utilize the press to work out uneven raduises in the heavier gauge sheets.

Everything you do is next level good! I like coming to your build thread for inspiration and motivation.
Keep it up!

You need to treat yourself to one of these. Press brake, shear, and slip roller. Mine is a Dayton but it was made in the same factory as the Harbor Freight , Eastwood, Bailegh, ect.

That is my plan once I free up this other garage bay... Press/sheer/roller, bandsaw, tubing bender, tubing notcher, english wheel, industrial belt sander, TIG welder, plasma cutter, small mill, tons of bright wall fixture arm mounted lighting, and one really LONG metal workbench.

And once you get this set up I will make the 1 hour drive so we can work on some of my idea stuff. ;) My 2 car garage, once I make the house move, doesn't lend itself to having all the fun tools!

Before you finalize your tool list take a at what SWAG Offroad. Their portaband tables are a must.

If you plan on working with thicker metal you should also look at one of their kits to turn a Harbor Freight press into a press brake. One of those with a set of gooseneck dies is at the top of my list when I get some more room.

That’s some good stuff. I like the idea of being able to run the brake through a hydraulic press. Looks pretty modular as well.

Spent some time dialing in the spool gun.

Welded the two airbox halves together.
This made further tweaking the structure much easier.

I have to be careful about what order I do things in, as the spool gun does not fit into tight areas very well.

I hate bad engineers, so I decided not to be one myself by creating a situation where half the car needs to be taken apart to service the air cleaner.

I will make an insertable panel on the intake port /firewall side that can be removed to change the filter. I will cut a panel in the firewall and place a piano hinge on it as an access door, with a magnetic latch.

All that will need to be done to access the filter is remove the aft passenger seat mount bolts and flip it forward. No cowling removal or other bs.

May add a small raised scoop panel off the side to add to the intake surface area.

You need to go to a craft store and get some chipboard aka non corrugated cardboard. It makes it way easier for templates that you want to bend.

BTW more great work as always. I love the custom inspiration you provide!

chipboard... I’ll have to remember that. The last time I stormed Michaels, all the stuff they had was way too thin.

Figured out my rear access cover. Welded a 1” support strip on the inside radius and added in 2 tabs & 4 stainless steel rivnuts. Will loctite in some studs. I left enough of a lip for the cover and a 1/8 rubber gasket. Will make the cover tomorrow.

Welds aren’t too sexy, but it was not easy getting the spool gun in there. Nobody will see them anyways, lol.
