V1 ccgillett's Track Goblin - '08 SS/TC

Traé
My kit came with the one piece tunnel cap, which has been superseded by the new 3-piece cap. I have the new cap and the new billet shifter from DF. Today I did a super sketchy mockup of how the new tunnel cap installs. I realized that the position of the cable is way back in the standard length chassis compared to the original tunnel and based on where cables fall when I lay them out. For example:

Is the 3 piece cap universal for the standard and extended length chassis, i.e. do I need to cut down the long piece that goes up front in order to get the retainers in position? Or do I need shorter cables? Presumably the cables aren't meant to bend and twist to make them fit that low. On the other hand, if I do cut the long piece to make it fit, won't it be an awkward reach for the shifter lever?

Also, what is the purpose of the 3 holes in this short piece (which I believe lies right in front of the firewall)?

Lastly, should I cut the upright piece (short leg of the "L") in the orginal tunnel and bolt that in over the wiring up front just to close things off a bit more? I'm sorta sad wasting a nice piece that was $ to powdercoat, but such is life....
From the pictures it looks like the rear most and middle line up where they are supposed to. My shifter is right inline with the cross brace in front of the seats.
I would install it temporarily and verify the rear and middle panel line up correctly. I don’t see a reason why you couldn’t trim the front most panel to fit, new holes may need to be drilled but shouldn’t be an issue. Just make sure it is trimmed from the side without the cutout. OR, send the measurement to DF and see if you got the wrong one. They could probably ship one pretty quick if it was a mistake.

The 3 rivenuts in the rear most piece is for the parking brake handle to bolt to.

I can’t find two different lengths of cables on their site, if you received the cables with your kit they should work with the new hardware in the billet shifter kit.

The front most cover should have a cut out in the front the allow the wires to pass through, so I don’t think you’ll need that L piece you’re referring to.

Here is a video of the install if it will help you visualize anything and of course help with your install!

There’s only one set of cables now, the long ones, which is annoying because although they fit, they are really long on the old short chassis.

Looks like the shifter upgrade comes in standard or extended length. Did you order the correct one and if you did, did you receive the correct one?
Good question so I looked it up. Yes, this is for the standard chassis...

So can I just pull the cables back a bit from the rear to get to the in-cabin position required? I was reluctant to bend or twist them in any way.

Ya. Just don’t bind them up anywhere. Mine curve way towards the pass side. I even zip tied them to the subframe. Let me look for a pic

but don’t actually fix anything!
I've got the tow rig and trailer, so that's a lot of snickers bars and Gatorade...which is definitely essential!
The problem is I usually don’t know how bad I needed the Gatorade and snickers until after I ingest them. They are like a crescent wrench, fits everything, but doesn’t actually fix anything. Gets ya down the road though. :)

I should not work on car when tired, I should not work on car when tired. Spent about 2 hours tonight on what I thought would be an easy 15 minute job - mounting the Type 16 A2W intercooler. No matter what I do I cannot get these damned brackets to align on the holes in the intercooler and then align to the mount points on the engine. Really disappointed, as I thought this should be straighforward.

Does anybody have any wisdom as to correct orientation and magic required to get this together? Do I have the brackets in approximately the right location and orientation? The "feet" of each bracket is pointing in the same direction and toward the passenger side of the car.

Thanks for any help guys, I'm ready to burn this thing to the ground and take up badminton....

Are you leaving everything loose until all of the bolts are started? I don’t remember having any issues and your brackets match mine the best I can tell. Is the intercooler the one the one supplied by DF?

I've tried several approaches, including trying to leave everything loose, can't seem to find the right combination. I sourced the installation hardware, brackets, etc. from DF. The intercooler itself came from FrozenBoost and this this piece which I believe DF uses.

I had to open up the 4 holes a little bit to get mine to work, could only get 3 out of 4 started initially.
This is good to know, I was considering that as a next step...best I could do was to get 3 in place. I'll enlarge the holes next and see where I get. Thanks!

When I went to mount mine, it would not line up either. I did find that it fit if I swapped sides. For some reason it wouldn't line up one way but swapped it would.
