Hi everyone,

Happy New Year!!

Figured I'd introduce myself, my name is DJ and I live in South Florida and I am very exited to be part of this group.

I placed my order yesterday 12/31/20 to lock in the current prices and have secured chassis #286. This will definitely be a fun project, I do not have a donor car yet and have been searching for one the past few weeks. I am currently thinking to just go with a base 2.2L 5 speed, there are plenty of these around so if I do mess up the engine by pushing it to hard it should be a relatively cheap / fast fix.

I did have a 97 cavalier z24 back in 2004-2007, I ended up doing a 2.2L ecotec swap replacing the cast iron 2.4L. That car at the time weighed about 2,200 with driver after some a lot of weight reduction. I did have a nice size turbo on it with stock internals using a megasquirt for fuel management. I am very existed to see what these motors can do on a goblin.

So to start my build I have a todo list at the moment, but not pictures yet. I know I have plenty of time for most of this stuff but I figure I have the time now to prepare a little.

1. Thank my wife for allowing me to start this project
2. Source a decent donor 2.2L 5 Speed (Manual)
3. Start cleaning out the garage to make space for this new project.
4. Find a decent local paint shop and plan out the color scheme
5. Study the registration process for Florida
6. Start figuring out what parts I need to source that are not included with the donor car (e-brake cable)
7. Start researching what is involved for the wiring harness modifications.
8. ??

The goal at this time is to build a decent looking / drivable NA car and get it registered for street use as fast as possible. Eventually it will get a turbo which is when the real fun will being. I know my self and I need to have a working car to keep me motivated, I do not what to get stuck in a never ending project where the car never sees the street.

Thanks in advance for your help :)

-DJ

Hello I would be happy to help with registering question and what ever else I can help with. Your compliance office is in Palm Beach. I live in Port Saint Lucie Fl 34953 if you haven’t seen a goblin in person yet. We could hook up.

Maybe this low mileage car will work for you. Don’t know if being a automatic would be a deal breaker. You could use seats , tires and wheels.
Very clean car and only 85, ooo miles
Sorry I don’t know how to post the Craigslist add for south Florida

Hey thanks for the responses @Zoom Zoom

I have not see a goblin in person yet, I will definitely take you up on that offer to meet up I appreciate that! Also thank you for the information about the compliance officer, I think I had found your post already with useful information about the paper work and the compliance officers business card.

I would really like to go with a 5 speed manual, automatic would be so much easier as far as donors go but I wouldn't enjoy it as much. Honestly this is what prevented me from going with an AT version. The AT seems more practical than the street version, but only automatic option was a deal breaker for me. I also I want to go with a FI setup eventually, with the radiator in the rear of the vehicle it would seem a little difficult.

I wish I would have went with a automatic, I shift gears in my tractor trailer all the time, For the last thirty years plus I have my 6 speed roush mustang already..

You mean the oversized Miata fastback cross-bred with a Jaguar? Or are they going for the early 90s look? Sorry that's what I'm seeing in the concept drawing, not a fan. Looks like someone is trying to 'Europeanize' it and they have lost the pony muscle car formula, that (was) an American icon. :(

Welcome & congratulations on locking in Frame #286. I'm also on Florida but quite a bit north of you near Lake City. I picked up my frame #227 in Texas on 22 October. That's 59 frames in the last 72 days .... Dang !!! My car is essentially done with the exception of an alignment, paint & getting it registered. Lot's of smart & helpful people on here. Good luck finding a suitable donor.

Well that, but moreso the Mach-E. Should not have the Mustang name anywhere on that thing. But we're derailing, so.... =)

Thank you for placing an order for a Goblin kit! You are locked in as chassis #286.

The database shows that you ordered a kit with the following configuration:
  • Standard length chassis
  • Full cage
  • Full door bars
  • Donor being used: Manual base/sport

How far South are you? I'm in Homestead and looking to do a build also.

Ahh right around the corner. So we are searching the same ads for a donor, that sucks. I have a few weeks at least, not buying a donor till I order the kit. I figured I can strip the donor while the kit is being built.

Found a donor picking it up today, 2007 Cobalt LTZ 4D hatch back!

20812

I am kidding, I picked up a 2008 Manual Cobalt LS (167,600 miles) on Thursday. Will be starting the tear down next weekend.

Question for those of you have gone through the registration process in Florida. I would need to transfer the title to my name, but I do not want to register this car as it was purchased for parts only. Also registering the car would require purchasing insurance. The question would be could I just transfer the title with out registering this vehicle?

Haha nice. I only transferred the title on my donor. Didn’t register or insure it. Florida DMV has you sign an agreement that you won’t be driving it on public roads. They have to verify the vin of the car if it’s never been registered in Florida so you’ll have to drive it or tow it to the dmv. I drove mine and they didn’t give me any crap.
