V1 Shifter assembly

Need some advice. How do I connect the shifter to the rods? I saw another threads where they were able to run the rods all the way through the shifter link but mine are designed to capture a textured end. The yellowish piece on the end of the donor shifter cable doesn’t look like it will come off

This is how we are attaching the shifter linkage now.
Before adjusting the two upper rods to length you will need to adjust the cables so that the rocker arms are straight up and down when the transmission is in neutral.
You may need to cut some of the threads off of the cable ends if it will not adjust short enough.
Leave the transmission in neutral while adjusting the upper two rods.
Set the length of the passenger side rod so that the lower part of the shifter handle just above the big pivot ball is straight up and down. The top of the shifter handle will lean back a little as shown below.

Set the length of the driver side rod so that when the shifter is relaxed side to side it will attach to the rocker arm without moving it.
These adjustments were all done while the transmission was in neutral.

Oooohhhhhhh... you guys are taking the covers off those black rod end pieces... I follow you now. Looks like I need to flip one of my crank arms around too. I know what I'm doing at lunch now.

I'll have to look back through my parts too, I don't think I got any left-hand thread jam nuts.

Ok, I think I got it all worked out. It will still need adjustment once it and the engine are installed.

I tried flipping it around like Lonny's but I guess my shifter housing is narrower than his as it was hitting the side and wouldn't go all the way over to the left.

Ya he cuts the mounting points off for the original shift cables.

Ahhh. Ok. I may pull mine back apart and see what I can trim off it.

Is everybody's reverse gear a little more difficult to get into than the rest? Mine really takes some side force to get it to drop down. Gears 1-5 seem to work pretty good.

Mine was a little like that until I shortened the shifter cable.

You might try the lower mount on the bellcrank. This will give you more throw side to side. The gears will be closer together side to side also. We had to because of the aftermarket short shifter shaft is so fat and doesn't give much room to move side to side.

I just wanted to add to Lonnys instructions and mention you need to have your shifter cables centered too. They have a 3" slide range . I took a sharpie and marked them halfway on both ends as a reference.

I was surprised at how well it it worked right from the start. Very little tweaking. I was a bit worried about this part as there are a few horror stories here.
