I spent this morning doing my part to help a (future) veteran. A young lady who works in my same department, who is in the active Army Reserves, just got activation orders to deploy to eastern Europe. She leaves at the end of this month to go for proficiency training at an Army base on the east coast prior to leaving for Europe - one of those proficiencies is rifle qualification. She did not have much exposure to the Army M16 up to this point and I volunteered to spend this morning with her at a local firing range to get her familiar and comfortable with handling an AR15 (M4). After 3 hours of going over the functions of the rifle, ballistics of the 5.56 round, how to use iron sights effectively and 200+ rounds in the 4 qualification positions the Army uses at 50/100/200/300 yards, she feels more ready to go through her proficiency rifle training in about 3 weeks. She does not have to be in the service, she has a very good job, but makes me proud to help her with this knowing that we still have young Americans who are willing to volunteer for the armed forces. HooRah!
