V1 Jmfblack71-09' Manual SS/TC-#384 City Goblin Build Log

Well after messing around with the fuse box, bcm, grounds, and who knows what else; I atleast have data coming though the obd2. Nothing else has changed unfortunately.

Recheck/retighten the ECM and BCM connections. Are all grounding lugs free of powder coating/paint? Some signal(s) is still missing connection or is intermittent. Chasing electrical gremlins is no fun. :(

Found my problem. It was of course self induced. At some point I disconnected the green low speed gmlan data wire from the cluster and stuck it with button panel wires. Why? No idea.

Did a quick splice and tested it, car fired right up no issues.

I did the same thing, but luckily I caught it while the harness was still on the table. All wrapped up so it was stick and messy, but at least not in the car.

It's been a hot minute since my last update. Haven't been very motivated until lately to get #384 done, but here we are nearing the finish line!

Had a few setbacks so far. Had some electrical gremlins that reared their head while I was finishing the wireing.

Wires that weren't supposed to have constant 12v did, some were grounded that shouldn't have been, when I engaged the brakes all the lights whent out and came back 4 or 5 seconds later. Was about to pull the entire harness out to double check I hadn't messed up the wireing or pinched a wire with a rivet.

Then I remembered I had a spare BCM from when I was still trying to fix the Cobalt, thought what the hell might as well try it. To my surprise it fixed all my problems. And to top that, the car still runs and drives even with the unpaired BCM. I don't have a boost gauge and the speedo on the dash dosnt work, but I still have a speed reading on the RPD. I have a friend who owns a shop and I'm going to take it to him to see if he can fully connect the BCM to the rest of the car.

I'm about ready to register it, hopefully in the next week or so. I'm currently searching for my MCO. I have absolutely no idea what I did with it, but I'm sure it's around somewhere. Just incase though, I have left a message with DF to see if they can send a copy.

Im extremely excited to get this thing on the road, and have taken a few laps around my neighborhood for some shakedown sessions. I can already tell this thing is going to be a handful and a ton of fun!

One thing you will need before you start putting in more playtime is a better set of tires. Those 300TW tires have to go with the TC - just saying - if you've been following along with other builders experiences with tires.

100%! Tires and harness are on the shopping list. Just focusing on getting it on the road. First few trips will likely be very mild and well behaved until I'm more confident both with the car and with my work.

As someone with over 1500 miles on a turbo'd Goblin with 600TW tires, I can clarify this and other tire comments.

If you plan on using it at the track or driving it like a 16-year-old on the street, you need to change the tires. If you know how to drive AND can control your impulses, you can use those tires until you have stickier tires.

Less sticky tires lower your thresholds but don't make the car undrivable.
