Ark is going to be very happy. I fixed the radio. I could control the head unit with my tech2, but no sound. Each speak has its own amplifier, but what controls it is the receiver thats in the back storage area. There is also a relay that controls it. with the location of that relay and being a convertible, I figured the relay may be rusted. I was close. The connector took on water at some point and the power wires were broke. Grabbed a waterproof relay and connector out of my stash and we have radio.

it did eat my VH cassette and won’t give me back my Metallica cd, but it works.

They should have put a little generator in it and used the cassette drive to charge the battery in the adapter. How hard can that be?!?

I thought that too. There‘s even a gear drive in there to give resistance so it doesn’t flip back and forth constantl. Hhhmmm I should redesign it and sell it. I could make 10s of pennies

Last thing on the radio. It hasn’t worked for years. My buddy was talking to the previous owner, he said when he bought it in 2016, it wasn’t working, but he never tried to fix it. Oh well. It’s like new now.

on to the next thing. I got brake pads coming because the pedal was hard as a rock, the rotors never did scuff off the surface rust while I was driving it and a quick peek at the pads said they were due to be replace, like yesterday. So threw delco pads on and ran with it. Hey, look…..it stops how, has feel and the rotors are glossy.

While replacing the pads, I got a good look at the wheels. Ugh. They are worse than expected. All of them are shedding their chrome. Glad we picked up some replacements

To make ark happy, I upgraded the cigar lighter To a usb/usb c unit.

sifting through my tool box, I found my old TB plate for the LT1 I had in my 96 trans am, back in the day. Not sure if this added or takes away 10hp, but now I can tell people “ya, it’s got a trans am motor in it”.

I have been doing stuff here and there as time permits.

the headlights rotate, but clink noises until the headlight module times it out. There’s little 7/16” (basically) plastic dowel rods that turn to powder over time. It looks like this isn’t the first time it has been done, so I decided to cut some old 7/16” drill bits to use as the dowels, Since I’m cheap and all. Ain’t gonna turn to dust anymore.

The ac control head may or may not work. I figured it has to be the contact area internal and sure enough, there’s a YouTube on that. Tore it apart and cleaned the contacts. Controls work now, but still no blower. Bought a Dorman blower control module I wasn’t getting warm fuzzies about. Installed and still no blower, BUT blower voltage went from 1v to 3v, so there’s that. Started looking for alternatives and my my buddy found that a Jeep Cherokee blower resistors a direct match. Bought one and bam. We have blower now.

While the center plastics were off might as well tackle the dim IPC. Pulled it and cleaned everything up. Ya. That didn’t work. Look online and have new lcd file type stuff coming to make that work properly. They had the option to change it to black, so I’m going with that. To be continued…….
