I have a new symptom that I noticed last night.

Now, my DRL's stay dimly illuminated sometimes. Sometimes they are solid, other times they flicker off and on, but when they are on, they are always dim, never full-bright. Functionality at the headlight switch is not affected; they turn on and off correctly at the switch. Sometimes they do not illuminate when they're not supposed to for quite some time, other times they do it as soon as the DRL's are off.

My first thought is, one of my offseason changes introduced a 12v backflow into the DRL circuit, somehow. I don't see how that could be, looking at the (short) list of things I changed this offseason. I will dig into it this weekend, but is it possible a weak battery could result in this? I've had it 3 years, which is not long for a car battery, but I've run it dead a couple times, and the first season I had it, it sat dead in my garage for 2-3 months over winter before I installed a tender. I should add that with the ignition off, my meter sees right around 12v from the battery.

A lot of time these "on dimly all of the time" issues are caused by a bad ground. Something else that shares that ground can back feed through the bulb to find a ground.

What's the lesson that this forum has tried to impart on every single member, over the years?

It's a ground.

It's always a ****ing ground.

I haven't zeroed in on the problem yet, but some of my ground wires are showing continuity to the frame when they should not be. I will work on finding it, tomorrow. There's only so many places to look.

Not sure how a ground should not be showing continuity to the frame. The frame is grounded. Unless you are talking about something that is grounded through a relay and is grounded when the relay is supposed to be open.

I'm saying, I disconnected a few bundles of ground wires from my frame but a few are still showing continuity to the frame. Ie, still grounded. That's what I meant.

If the lights are on dimly, then the ground path is going through the lights. Double check the ground for the front connections by the lights and battery box. The relay in the BCM is also a possibility, but relays do not fail very often.

A lot of the headlights and tail lights are relayed at the fusebox, with several of the relays built into the circuit board, although I don’t remember exactly which ones. And for some reason my donor had several of these relays that had failed.

I thought it was. Don’t forget the parking brake tubes

At this point, I've disconnected every light and undid everything I did this offseason. Not fixed yet.

When I was messing with the turbo intercooler pump earlier this year, I had opened the loop and lost some coolant. When I replaced it, I dribbled some into the fuse box, which I had foolishly not replaced the cover on. I have a second fuse box so I'm going to swap it, but not today. If that doesn't take care of it, the seats will come out, the tunnel cover will come off, and I will figure out why the original turbo intercooler pump run was not delivering 12v to the pump.

But, for today, frustration is setting in so it's time to put it away for the day.
