V1 Brian's City Goblin-06/Crate MotorTC #61

Classy
I 100% want the adjustable steering setup, after driving a goblin, to say that the steering is over powered would be an under statement. An instinctive steer away from something could really be dangerous

Are you going have to switch your original EPS plastic box for the Vue metal EPS box? Or are you able to work around that?

I picked up an EPS assembly from a 2007 Vue last weekend.

I fabbed up & tacked in a small bracket to hold the ambient sensor in place. I installed the EPS potentiometer in the old dimmer knob location and relocated the dimmer knob to a more logical spot.

No more **** holes in my dash. Re-glazing a few low spots and then will shoot another coat of primer.

Shifter and pedals showed up. The pedals are going to take a bit of careful planning to fab proper adjustable mounting brackets.

Shifter looks like it will match my frame powder coat nicely.

I plan to explore designing a partial sheet metal console to cover the shifter assembly and provide means of mounting a suede shift boot to match my seat inlays. I hope to incorporate a small tray for holding cellphone with a co-located USB charger. I would like to fab up a cupholder somewhere as well, if I can find the room (when I drive this to work, I will need a place to put my coffee!)

Interesting. So those metal replacements for the stock plastic clamps, came in your kit? I will have to inquire with DF about getting a set of those, I view the plastic clamps as a huge weakness in the build.

I think the solid was an early design and they changed it so you could use the plastic ones. You might still be able to get the solid parts from them.

If I remember right, there are different sizes of linkage fittings required, depending on your shifter. I know there is a thread somewhere in here that addresses that. I could be wrong.

Dash brackets are finally installed. Spent a good hour just fine tuning the clamps to get the position right. I had a super tight tolerance to work with, but was able to get it dead-on. Gusseted the brackets as well.

Will wet sand the dash next and then vinyl wrap it.

Dash is almost prepped for vinyl wrap. Hit it with some 600 grit and on its 2nd coat of flat black. Waiting for the paint to dry and I’ll wet sand one last time.

Will start welding my subwoofer mount. Also feeling ambitious about a shifter console. I could size it up just right to use the factory shifter boot and I found the boot in alcantra suede to match the seats. The fit & finish would need to be flawless as I would have it powder coated to match the frame. No room for a cupholder. I may build some sort of collapsible or removable one on the left hand side if theres room.
