It's pin 8 and 16 on the instrument cluster for the backlighting. I know this because I converted them to the LED in our recent build. These two wires are not common with anything else in the cluster. See the highlighted area. Make sure 16 is grounded. They can be very faint. You did connect the two wires for the dimmer? Also what about the photocell on that was on the dash, maybe the lights are coming on automatically. I assume you forced them on.

These are two very good questions.. I do have left over plugs but I do not have the dimmer connected and I remember setting the auto light sensor aside but need to find where I put it.. are people using the dimmer switch? And shouldn’t the gauge light up when lights are manually turned on.. I am waiting on my button panel to arrive should be here today or tomorrow then hopefully I can go through all of these possibilities of why it’s not working..

We wired the dimmer wires together to eliminate it altogether. No need to dim it, not very bright to begin with.

We did leave in the light sensor, not really sure why we did.

The backlights should come on with the manual lights. The dimmer will still have an affect on the brightness.

I kept my light sensor. The drivers center is hard to read in the daylight as is and having the headlights on makes it worse.

If you're wondering why I don't just turn the lights on/off off manually, it's because I'm lazy and forgetful. No need to put in extra effort when there is already a system in place. :)

Got the car primered and painted. Not bad for a garage /home job! There is some trash in the pain but I mostly did this out of boredom. I have already ordered my vinyl wrap and am contemplating attempting it myself to keep with the spirit of this car or pay someone to do it....?? Also I tried out the windscreen bracket in gold, thought it would tie in with some of the hardware but most likely going to change after the car is wrapped...

Nice, Itll at least give you some good surface for the wrap to stick to. I wrapped the sides inside and out myself. but i did not do my hood. i paid a guy 150 to do it. turned out pretty good. Its not that I dont think i couldnt do it. but i guess i didnt want to mess it up, then have to order more wrap.

Did you get the vinyl wrap?
I have purchased vinyl from vivid. I wrapped the side panels but have still yet to attempt the hood.. it is on my list of things to get done this weekend. The color is “flat pearl combat white” you can definitely tell the difference in the picture but nobody has brought it up when they ask about the car..

Finally wrapped the hood. We will just call this version 1.0... I convinced the Mrs to help me and all things considering it came out fairly good.. things I will correct when I re wrap it are 1 I would wrap the radiator opening/ lower nose cone separate. 2 I think you must sand and smooth out 1-2 inches of the fiberglass on the back side for the wrap to properly adhere to.. Also during my build I cut my rear springs to short causing more angle to the cv shafts then I liked.. I bought some cheap manzo lowering springs from eBay and it brought the rear up a good 1-1.5”. I always figured I’d eventually buy the coil over kit but hard to justify when this thing will rarely see an autocross. I also purchased a pair of moose atv fender bags and attached them behind both seats to store small items during longer trips. The picture is a bad one but I am very satisfied with the quality of these packs.. lastly I’ve been wanting to Add some flair and what better then some giant turbo stickers haha. I have some big plans making some custom aggressive headlights but very little talent in the fab department so have been putting it off hopefully soon I’ll start ordering parts.

Super-sanitary car you've built there, Chris. Congrats.

Do you think the white color scheme will help you avoid unwanted attention from the local gendarmerie?

(BTW, The term gendarme is derived from the medieval French expression gens d'armes, which translates to "armed people".)
