Thanks for those @Ross

I had a bit of free time waiting on the electrical inspector to come by the shop today so I installed the toe link. Also mounted the calipers front and rear.

I discovered a seeping leak coming out of where the passenger side axle goes into the auto tranny. I need to watch some Youtube videos and learn how to troubleshoot that. I've got it repaired with a rag now. lol. :D

I took care of my coolant hose and fuel lines mid-week. Also shored up the electrical stuff that was obvious. The grounds and such. I wanted to try a first start this weekend. I had to fill fluids first though and I ended up hooking up the donor battery to discovered it was dead. Fresh battery, oil, and coolant taken care of and I went for the first start.

I turned the key. Dash lit up. No fuel level showing. CEL is on. Throttle body butterfly did a little dance. I turned the key more. No crank. I didn't have my gear box in P or have the shifter plug connected. I fixed that and it started turning over but no run. I hear the fuel pump click click at times. I also heard what sounded like weak muffled backfires on the intake side. Not loud pops or anything. I hit the gas pedal to open the TB butterfly and turned it over again and I see quick orange flashing through the TB. The light pops are there too. I started running out of light so I stopped for the evening.

Does the throttle body side "muffled backfire " sound familiar to any of you guys? Of course I didn't have an OBDII reader or my laptop with HP tuners there to see what the computer was saying. I need to haul that stuff out the next time I go.

Oofff. Ya. Could be anything.

did you cycle the key on and off a few times to build proper fuel pressure? The back cough through the intake is concerning though.

I'm going to go over fuel lines the next time I'm at the farm. Have to stop by Tractor Supply and get that pressure test kit. I also want to get it back up in the air and go over the lower sensor's connectors.

I'm hoping it's something simple and that I didn't jack up the timing setup.

Without hearing it I might guess (agree) that the pop through the intake is intake valves opening on the compression stroke. If it were me I'd pull the valve cover and check the timing marks. If you've swapped the head I'd also guess you can figure this out but pulling the spark plugs makes it easier to spin the motor with hand tools without fighting compression.

Build is looking fantastic so far! When I get around to building mine, will have to spring for the aluminum control arms as well... Ion Redlines don't have them, that was a Cobalt SS-only thing.

@TheNuker Boost ramping is going to be needed I think. I’m going to keep researching the electronic controller linked above.

As an experiment, I pulled most of the boost out of 1st gear from my car... so my wife could actually drive it. That didn't last long! She has her own car now.

Mine leaked constantly once that axle was out but stopped when I re-inserted the axle. I think there was an "adapter" on that spline as well. I would check for the adapter and to confirm it is fully seated.

You can see the clear tub catching the fluid in the bottom left.

I've been meaning to reseat that axle. I'll knock it out in a few days.
Meanwhile, this was delivered to my work tonight. I'll transfer it over to my shop over the long weekend. Atlas 9KOH.

Quick update: I’m not getting any fuel pressure out of the pump. My freak-out meter has dropped back to 9 of 10. :D I’ll troubleshoot it next.

Shop electrical is my priority this week. Our local utility started trenching in power on our property early this week. I should be off of the generator by the end of next week. I need to get ready for that. Our local Lowe’s doesn’t have much on the shelf. I’ve resorted to Amazon for some stuff.
