V1 CV Axle Assembly

So I purchased some ZZP stage 1 LSJ axles to replace the stock ones from the donor. I could have sworn that I’d seen on some other builds, people mating both drivers side and passengers side axles directly to the transmission. However, the ZZP axles do not appear to be long enough, at least for the passengers side. The drivers side is fine. So my question then is: what is this (circled in red) called? And where to get one? Old one has some pretty deep rusting where the paint got damaged

Trying to find a replacement for it but no luck at any local parts stores

Yeahhhh that’s kinda what I figured was the case

I suppose I’ll have to stick with the stock one for now until I can come up with something better.

I was able to find a replacement bearing at McMaster-Carr so hopefully I'll be able to just rebuild it (so long as the rust on the shaft isn't too bad)

It apparently was used on some other cars. I seem to recall hearing of an Isuzu? And a Pontiac Grand Am or Grand Prix? And maybe a Saturn Vue? All the listed applications would be manual transmission cars as the design of an Auto Trans has an extended “Tail Shaft housing” behind the engine pointing to the right side. Which makes the automatic CV axles about the same size. I feel sure someone on the forum can name those applications, maybe repost “looking for intermediate shaft”?

I have one of those in my shed, on an old 1990's Chevrolet Beretta, that had the 3.1 V6 and 5 speed manual (it has a different outer bearing bracket than the Cobalt - may be changeable??). The Getrag transmission is like the ones used in the Pontiac Fiero also, on certain applications. So, there are some out there, so try calling the salvage yards around your area to see what they may have. If the cars are from your area, the salvage ones may be bad also, though! https://www.partshotlines.com/ They will have yards listed near you. Fill out the info and do a search, then call for those that list a transmission/transaxle for your ear Cobalt.

The Saturn vue is the half shaft I used for f23 conversion but it does have the male splines on the axle side requiring the use of a automatic axle on the passenger side. My build log contains the details I used.
